Truly The Next Best Thing To Seeing Led Zeppelin LiveFeb 15 '04 Write an essay on this topic. The Bottom Line I know tribute bands are not normally as good or exciting as the original artists, but this tribute band comes about as close as it gets to Led Zeppelin. In January, 2004, we saw a very amazing spectacular tribute band called Zoso at the Blue Note in Columbia, MO. Now, I, at first, expected this to be a decent show, but I did not expect this to be such an amazing exact replica of witnessing the real Led Zeppelin live and in person, but it was. I even thought imitating Led Zeppelin live exactly from each verse, each beat, each riff, all the way to each emotion would be next to impossible, especially with how the real Led Zeppelin brought out their material so lively and so phenomenal, but this tribute band actually accomplished that. The singer looked and sounded exactly like a young Robert Plant. The other members also looked exactly like a young Jimmy Page, a young John Paul Jones, and a young John Bonham. They even had the same movements, mannerisms, and facial expressions the original artists they were imitating were known for while performing. They also used the same kinds of bright flashing unique lightings the real Led Zeppelin used. They even had the large banner of the wizard standing at the edge of a rocky cliff holding up a lantern, in which the real Led Zeppelin had been known to use as one of their main banners or symbols. Two of the more unique parts of the act were the high-pitched smashing vocals of Robert Plant as well as the most clever unique guitar riffs and solos of Jimmy Page being covered just perfectly with the exact same unique sounds as well as being brought out so lively and superb, the crowd could literally feel it going through them. They started off with "Celebration Day" from the third album. Now this song was only one thing on the studio album, but was really "something else" when performed live. This tribute band really carried on that last tradition mentioned by bringing it out so lively with so much energy, emotion, and great spirit. They also had really bright red lights shining and flashing over the stage with each beat and verse perfectly to bring out the song and the energy even more. They really got the whole large full-house crowd going wild and cheering loud right from the start with that song. One highlight of the show is when they performed "Thank You" from the second album. Right from the start of this song, every one of Jimmy Page's beautiful unique riffs and solos was covered perfectly all the way to the end of it. So were the beautiful and emotional vocals of Robert Plant. The whole beautiful, soothing, and touching sound and feel of this song existed all the way through, really making us all feel as if we were witnessing the real Led Zeppelin live. Like "Thank You", "No Quarter" from the HOUSES OF THE HOLY album also has so many beautiful melodic unique riffs and solos along with the vocals being so smooth, on-tune, and emotional. It also has some rather unique bass riffs. All that was covered perfectly throughout the whole song, and that is no overstatement. They also had some very bright white lighting shining over the stage and flowing with the soft, unique, and melodic beat perfectly to help bring out the soothing excellent feel to this song even more. They really livened the place up with some faster Led Zeppelin classics like "Rock 'N Roll", "Over The Hills And Far Away", "Misty Mountain Hop", and "Living Loving Maid(She's Just A Woman)". Not only were all those songs covered perfectly and brought out excellently, but they also kept the feeling of witnessing Led Zeppelin live alive and growing. One very main highlight of the show is when they performed "Black Dog" from the fourth album. That was covered so perfectly, including the movements, energy, and enthusiasm from the band members. It was also brought out so lively with plenty of bright multi-colored lights shining over the stage and flashing right with the beat perfectly. The singer even ran up to the very front center of the stage jamming with a lot of great energy, and would pause during the "aw-uh" verses then hold his microphone out towards the crowd for them to complete that verse. Robert Plant was very known for doing that last one while performing this song. He even did that in their movie classic, THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME. This song really made us feel like we were at an actual Led Zeppelin concert. They performed plenty more classics like "You Shook Me", "Dazed And Confused", "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", "That's The Way", and "Gallow's Pole". They kept the same smooth soothing sounds and feels to these songs alive, like the real Led Zeppelin was known for while performing them. The final song for the evening was, of course, their major hit ballad, "Stairway To Heaven". This song was covered very perfectly from the soft slow guitar solo at its very beginning to the smooth soothing vocals singing about the lady's climb up the stairway, including the bass riffs and drum tempos, all the way to where the song speeds up near the end and slows back down at the very end. The feel to this song was brought out so excellently, people really felt it going through them, and some people had to even remind themselves that this is only a tribute band to Led Zeppelin. After the show was over, I was feeling such an awesome rush, and still feeling so surprised about how Zoso really was like witnessing the real Led Zeppelin live. I was just so totally blown away. The show was so superb and phenomenal, and the lightings mentioned in this review added a very fine art to the show. The tickets were only seven U.S. dollars a piece because Zoso is only a tribute band, but it would have been worth a lot more. With the show being so amazing and memorable, and the tickets being so cheap, I will definitely, without a doubt, see these guys again. I guess I will also add that this is the first time that I have rated a tribute band to any artist nearly as high as putting on one of my better concert experiences. |
