The Bottom Line If the title didn't give it away, I'm gonna tell you that I'm going to tell you my five most anticipated albums of 2004. Check it out!
I would put Incubus' A Crow Left of the Murder here, but I already have it, and it's awesome. Not as good as S.C.I.E.N.C.E., but then again, is anything that good? HI! It's me again, with another epinion of music I want NOW! None of it is out yet (the earliest release date for any of these albums is in April), but I'm looking forward to them so much that I have to sedate myself daily just so I don't explode with excitement. Okay, so I don't actually sedate myself, I just can't wait for these albums. 2 months is a long time when you're waiting for music. And I'll give you reasons why each of these albums is going to be worth the wait, and why I'm waiting for them in the first place. 5. System of a Down's 4th album - I've been a fan since Toxicity, and I like every song off their three albums so far. I haven't heard any of the bootleg stuff or anything not on the albums, but I like the album stuff. And since I am a huge fan, I figure that this is gonna be near the top of my top picks for this year. After a long hiatus and several side-projects, Serj, Daron, Shavo, and John are ready to put together a big album. Daron's spent a while writing by himself, and with everyone else, they're bound to get some really good stuff out of his ideas. I've been waiting for something new since I got through Steal This Album! all the way for the first time. Although I haven't really listened to their stuff much in the past few months, I think that's a good thing, since I can now enjoy everything like it was new again, and satisfy my craving for SOAD until their fourth album comes out sometime this year. 4. Slipknot's third album - OMG!!!11!!oneone he lieks Slipnot he is not t3h r0xx0rz liek me! I hate these people. They need to go away. Slipknot is finally back, and I just know that they're gonna blow us all away with their next album. I'm sure it'll come out before they start touring...I hope it will, anyway. I haven't heard much at all about it since I first heard they were holing themselves up in the Houdini mansion waaaay back in 2003. I myself have not bought a Slipknot album, but rather, I've heard all their stuff off other people's CDs and from downloaded material. But it's awesome stuff. It's just the kind of music I can headbang to, unlike pretty much anything else. Slipknot can get me riled up unlike any other band. I want to go riot and ransack a Wal-Mart after listening to Slipknot. So, in short, it's just plain awesome, and I can't wait for their next album. 3. Bowling for Soup - A Hangover You Don't Deserve Yeah, I like this pop-punk band. I like Sum 41 too. I bought BFS's album Drunk Enough to Dance, and love it. It's hilarious. And it's got some good, simple guitar riffs that anyone can learn. So what's not to love? Sure, it is pop-punk-y, but it's catchy. Plus, if you don't like Girl All the Bad Guys Want, something is terribly wrong with you. I've been wanting some new BFS stuff since I finished Drunk Enough...and their new single Punk Rock 101 is a nice song. In their last mass email, they said that the new album should probably be out in the summer of 2004. So, if there's a BFS concert in my general area, you'll see me there. I don't care who else is performing, I just want to see these four guys from Texas. 2. Drowning Pool - Desensitized (release date: April 20, 2004) New singer, new look, new single...DP is back! Dave Williams will always live on in our hearts, but the new guy is just as good. Their single is on the Punisher soundtrack, and it rocks. Everyone should check it out at their website. I've been waiting for new DP since Dave died. I never saw them in concert, and now I can. I heard a rumor a long time ago when Dave passed on, that Rob Zombie of all people would fill in on vocal duties. He's great and all, but it just would be weird. So I'm happy that they're finally back on their feet and going strong. DP is finally back. And my most anticipated album of 2004 involves another band that lost their lead singer (not through death, but he just left), and are going stronger than ever with their new singer. The band (and album) are... 1. Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache (release date: May 11, 2004) Ever since I first heard about these guys playing Ozzfest second stage last year, I was intrigued. I wanted a preview of some of the bands that were playing second stage last year so I could decide whether or not I wanted to go. I ended up not going, but at least I found a new band to listen to. I wasn't so accepting of the screaming at the time, but I've grown to love it. Jesse Leach (the former singer) is one of the best out there at both screaming, growling, and singing. And he's already in a new band which has a CD out. The band is called Seemless, so go check them out. But Howard Jones is everything Jesse is and more (possibly). Howard, the new singer, and the new drummer, Justin Foley, are going to be the "make or break" part of the new KsE. Now, why did I tell you all of that? Because I don't want to wait for their album. My other fave bands at the moment (Incubus and Sevendust) aren't releasing anything soon (since they both released albums in the past few months), and both of their albums are awesome. And KsE's album is more anticipated by me than any album I've ever wanted. Seriously. More than A Crow Left of the Murder, more than anything. Their amazing blend of screaming, heavy riffs, double-bass drumming, and pinch harmonics is just perfect. Plus, the cover art is just plain scary good. I can't wait for these guys to come to the state of California, because wherever they're playing, I'm going. Except if it's in San Diego or something, cause I'm not driving three or four hours to see any band, no matter how good they are. But if they're coming somewhere near, I'll be there. Well, that's my outlook on the music world's upcoming albums. If you like my choices, be sure to drop me a comment. If you think my choices stink, drop me a comment. I'm always open to new ideas. Except if they involve bands like the Murderdolls, the Darkness, No Doubt, the White Stripes, the Hives, the Vines, or the Strokes. I've already closed my mind to them, so don't bother trying to convince me they're good. Okay. I'm done here. Hope you like my opinion on music. END TRANSMISSION! |
