I needed a new work camera. I have been digital for about 7 years and have used Nikon pro gear and Canon gear. I switched to Canon after having a horrid time with the their inital digital offeing the Nikon D100 or whatever it was..
Horrible flash exposures with the external flash...I went thru 3 different bodies and flash units.
I then switched to Canon about 6 years ago and have not looked back. I've used all the Canon digitals for my photo assignments and last year bought the Canon Rebel 400xti.
Nice camera-10 megapixels and I won't even start to wax poetically about the built in sensor cleaning!
However, after using the Rebel for some awfully long photo shoots,my hand was starting to cramp up from the ackward grip.
The grip was slightly improved over the Rebel 350D but for long shooting days it is not comfortable.
So,I purchased the Canon 30D online. It arrived in 2 days along with the Mack Warranty I purchased for it.
Set up was easy-easy as my former Canon 10D and 20D was.
The sensor on this camera at 8+ megapixles gives far superior results than the Canon Rebel 10 megapixel.
I also noticed on the Rebel that since it lacks a spot meter, getting that perfect exposure for fine art type work is almost impossible. Blacks were turned into grey and the color variations side by side were completely different.
I love the 30D for the quality of images I am getting and my stock agents are happier with the output as well since they have to be rezzed up to 50megs per image.
Focus in dark light is so much better and the the 5fps makes a big difference when someone is running by you!
I will keep the Rebel for certain stock shoots where I know I could end up with alot of sensor dust outside but rely more on the the 30D for "The money shot"
I have now had over 34,000 images published worldwide(I do NOT shoot microstock!) and the better that digital capture gets, the more my business prospers.
I've hired 2 photographers this year and will be buying a few more Canon 30D bodies. For this one I paid appx $1100.00
online with a separate Mack extended warranty.
However, the drawbacks of any SLR digicam is sensor dust. I am very careful when removing lenses, pointing down,no wind but still after my first 8 hour shoot had to pull out the liquid sensor cleaner and pads. I use Eclipse for this task and have cleaned the camera once a week.
The Canon Rebel 400D has not needed a wet sensor cleaning since the ultrasonic cleaner in the camera does this at start up.Dust free makes it a better travel camera.Especially when you have to remove your lens going thru airport security!
