The Bottom Line ...
Off and running... -I've come to the conclusion that Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston just need to go away already...as sick as I am of teen pop, American Idol, and 3 Doors Down, I'm even more sick of hearing every two weeks that one half (if not both halves) of this sorry a*s pathetic couple have been arrested... -So Wes Scantlin, he being the lead singer of Puddle of Mudd, claims that his voice is in much better form on the band's sophomore effort, Life on Display, than it was on the band's surprisingly decent 2001 debut Come Clean. Odd, since I found Scantlin's voice on the second album to resemble the wailing of a castrated monkey, needless to say a step back from the first disc... -Billy Corgan had an awful lot to say about the Smashing Pumpkins breakup on his website (www.billycorgan.com) a couple of weeks back. He blamed guitarist James Iha for the breakup, although his reasoning is rather non-existant. That being said, this beats his "I'm sick of fighting the Britneys" excuse that he gave back in 2000 when he announced the breakup... -Can someone explain to me why Rich Robinson's excellent new band Hookah Brown broke up? For those who liked the older Black Crowes sound, that's what Hookah Brown was a lot like, with a bit of the jamming blues style that infected a lot of that band's live performances. Robinson recently wrapped a brief solo tour (he hit only 6 cities) where he performed new original material, as well as songs originally written for Hookah. Here's hoping we hear SOMETHING official from Rich in the next few months. -And while we're on the subject of former Black Crowes members, no further word on whether the rumored CHRIS Robinson/DeLeo Bros collaboration is for real or, well, just a rumor...while Chris' solo debut bit the big one in many ways, he since has fleshed out his sound and his new songs are pretty good...which makes me wonder if Warren Haynes pulled him aside and reminded him of what sounds good...hopefully his second album will come out by summer -So I was all pumped to go to Ozzfest this year to see Ozzy, Slayer ,and yes, the reunited with Rob Halford Judas Priest...and then I found out Slipknot was also on the tour...the day one dime of my money goes to Slipknot will be the same day that I admit that Metallica's ST ANGER was in fact a brilliant album...in other words, there is a better chance of Jim Carrey becoming God and then making a monkey come out of my a*s than me paying any money that may in fact end up in Slipknot's bank account -The Who have announced plans to release yet another greatest hits collection, this one being a single disc. The hook this time is that it will feature the first two new studio recordings from the band since the 1982 It's Hard album. You know, as much as I love the 'Oo, I will not shell out perfectly good money on this thing. Either get in the studio and record a full record of new material (it shouldn't be this hard), or stop with the greatest hits collections and just go out on tour and kick every bit of a*s that you do live. They've now reached Kiss and Aerosmith levels of greatest hits releases, something no band should aim to claim. -Every time I hear Britney Spears' Toxic come on the radio (sadly, a co-worker in the cube next to mine has the top 40 station on all day), all I can think of is "what else can they do to her voice so that she'll sound like a f*cking robot?" One listen to this song is proof enough that production outstrips talent with her... -Looking at album sales figures can be pretty funny. Who knew that there were still 12,000 Skid Row fans waiting in line to purchase their 2003 release Thickskin? And that is without Sebastian Bach on vocals. I'd also like to state that the fact that Sevendust's Seasons has sold only 193,000 copies is downright wrong when Slipknot has sold 2.7 million copies of their first two records. -Who the hell decided that Yellowcard was worthy of decent amounts of airplay, or hell, any airplay at all? -Am I the only one a tad concerned that U2 scrapped everything they had already done in order to start anew with Steve Lillywhite? Don't get me wrong, I want a good album, and I love Lillywhite, but now the songs the band was so excited about a few months ago in a couple of print interviews are just being tossed like that? -Jack Black and Will Ferrell were hilarious on the Oscars telecast. They seemed to be about the only kind of true personality that showed up on the stage all night. -Ridiculous rumor of the month: the on hiatus Mighty Mighty Bosstones would be playing the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in May/June...yes, a band that hit its commercial peak 7 years ago and has sold about a total of 200,000 copies of their last two records COMBINED is going to play the 30,000+ capacity SPAC...give me a break...I love the Tones to death but whoever started this rumor is an idiot...the only reasonable explanation is that they've been signed on as one of the acts on a radio bill, but even that doesn't make sense: it's been almost two years since their last album came out and they haven't played together since last summer...who the hell starts these rumors anyways? -Speaking of ska/punk bands I love, when the f*ck are Less Than Jake and The Aquabats finally going to come back to f*cking Boston? And please, note to Reel Big Fish: no more stops here until a new album is out...oops, too late, you guys are booked here AGAIN for an April gig...ugh -If I'm Avril Lavigne and I'm trying to give myself credibility, the last thing I'm doing is a f*cking mall tour to promote my upcoming CD... -So Hootie and the Blowfish released a greatest hits CD...funny, I thought it was called Cracked Rear View -Kelly Osbourne is in the middle of recording another CD...I think I'd rather hear Eric Cartman try and hit the high note on Styx's Lady than hear Kelly sing again -On the bright side, since Kelly broke up with Burt, we haven't heard too much about The Used, another band I could just as easily wipe my a*s with -Am I the only one who thinks the chances that the new Lenny Kravitz album won't suck the way his last 3 albums have suck are slim and none? Hey Lenny, stop worrying about how you look and start worrying about whether your songs are any good (hint: they haven't been for close to a decade) -You know, I've kind of gotten tired of the whole 'king of rock at Epinions' nickname. It's just sort of played out. With CaffienatedYak's permission (since he coined the phrase earlier this week), I'd almost rather now be known as "the big mopey bada*s of Epinions.com"...hell even "The Artist Formerly Known as the King of Rock at Epinions.com" would work... Non Music Thought of the Month: God I hope the New Jersey Devils don't make it out of the first round of the NHL playoffs...they are a curse on hockey (brought on by the league rigging the 1994 playoffs for the Rangers) and what it has become...so while the NHL's motto seems to be that of the South Park movie ('f*ck Canada'), I simply say 'f*ck Lou Lamoriello and Jacques Lemaire.' |
