| ag4hq's Full Review: Flecto Watco Danish Oil Natural Finish, 1 Qt. |
When my wife was pregnant with our third child, she wanted to set up our nursery in pastels. We bought an armoire at the bare wood furniture store and painted it....LIME GREEN. Well, four years later, I decided to strip and restore the armoire because my eyes were hurting from looking at that green paint. I used Citristrip to remove the paint and primer. It took a weekend and four nights into the next week to get all the paint off. Once I got down to the bare oak again, I researched online the best way to seal the wood. I read several good reviews for Watco Danish Oil and decided to use it. I paid $6.97 for a pint at Home Depot. It wipes on with a rag. I used medium walnut. After the second coat, the wood stopped absorbing the oil. I waited 24 hours and came back, wiped off the wood with a dry cloth to remove the excess. I was done. The grain of the wood stood out nice and bold and the armoire looked nice and new. The only drawbacks to the oil are the stickiness and tackiness it has after being applied, and the strong smell. After 24 hours and a good wipe down, the stickiness is 99% gone. With a little more time (and moving it from the hot humid garage to indoors in the air conditioning) it should be just fine. I live in Florida and I suspect that alot of the stickiness was due to the humidity.
