So Called Job Placement Agencies

The Bottom Line If you have a job thank your lucky stars and pray that you do not get laid-off like I did!
Job placement agencies are a joke!

[_ I have a great full-time job now. I work with a lot of nice people. Things are a lot better for me now.

I have been applying with these so called job placement agencies for a little over
nineteen months now. I do not have a single job or a single job interview to show for
all of my time, trouble, paperwork, gas money and mileage on my car.
That includes the State Department of Labor. That name is just a sick joke!
It really should read "Department of NO Work in here"!
I was "laid-off" due to "lack of work" August 2, 2002!
"Lack of work" means that the company that I was employed with did not have enough
business to warrant my labor!
The company President said that business was worse than it had ever been in the
twenty-five years the company had been open.
He blamed the poor U.S. economy!
The word "poor" does not properly describe just how bad things are!
The company had to lay-off all but three employees!
The company President-Owner put it into writing, that should business improve,
he would hire me back!
I go down to the State Department of Labor three to four days a week and wait two to three
hours to speak to a "professional" about getting the "State's" help in finding
employment and when I finally get to see someone all they can do is say,
"I don't know where the jobs are!", "I don't know of any business that is hiring",
"Keep coming back every day or so and maybe something will turn up!", "NEXT"!
It is almost the same situation with the private sector placement agencies! The only
difference is they make you fill out an inch and a half stack of paperwork and watch
a dozen videos about work safety before they tell you that they will be in touch and
call them back every so often and or drop by every so often!
I really am "Sick and Tired" of this!
When I have called these agencies back, even when I ask for a specific person, whomever
it is that answers the phone first always asks me what is the call about.
I answer that I was told to call that person about getting a job. Or I am returning
a call from a specific person. They ask what job am I seeking? Or what jobs will I take?
Most of the time I don't know what jobs they have in the first place! Or what they
called me for.
I have five or six job categories (fields) that I could get a job in. Not to mention
all the entry level jobs in all work fields that any body is supposed to be able to
get as long as they have between a sixth grade and high school education.
I have a "high school diploma" plus an "associates degree".
I had been working for over sixteen years before I was laid-off.
When I answer with all the different jobs that I can do it seems as if I loose their
attention for a while!
I wish they would just tell me up front what they have. Then I can say I qualify for
that or not! Then we could make an appointment for me to come by their office and
provide proof of my claims!
Then after I spend all this time with the numskull that answered the phone but
obviously works in a job placement capacity, they either hand me off to the person
that I called for in the first place and I have to start the whole process over with
them or they say I will give them the message and they will call you back, in which even
if they call me back I have to go back over all the same stuff with them that I did
with the first person.
If you have a job thank your lucky stars and pray that you are able to keep it!
While the rest of the world goes mad, you can rest easy at night that you will be able
to pay your bills!
