I've been shopping with Amazon.com quite some time now. When Amazon first started, they were just an online store that sold books. Then they began to sell CDs, tapes, VHS and DVD's. But now they sell many, many more things.
In books, music, DVDs and VHS tapes, you can find anything that you need, including out of print and hard to find items. Of course, a lot of these kinds of items are used, and you take your chances when you use the sellers at Amazon. I've had good luck, and Amazon has a policy that any time a buyer is dissatisfied, a refund must be made by the seller, so you pretty much can't lose. Of course, I look very closely at the ratings a seller receives from others who buy from them: If they've been a problem, I don't order from them.
Navigating Amazon is easy. The links are easy to find and take you right where you need to go. Pages load quickly and I haven't noticed very many down times. You can find everything from fragrances to computers to major appliances. Prices are good, though I find shipping a little high. And shipping, just like the stores affiliated with Amazon, varies. Sellers send used books, etc. by media mail which can be very, very slow. The average is 4 to 14 days for packages to appear. It takes a little less when you buy it new from Amazon, but it leaves you wondering if the package is going to show.
The only problem with Customer service is I couldn't find a phone number to talk to a real, live person when I had a question. All that was available was an email address. I hate that, too. By the time you email back and forth, you could have fixed the problem/answered the question 40 times over. What I did was email customer service and ask for a number to call in. I was surprised when I got an answer from them withing 8 hours, and it contained their toll free number. I called and got through very easily, and my question was answered quickly.
On the whole, I give Amazon high marks. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give them about an 8. That's pretty good for any kind of store, and for an online one the size of Amazon, I'd say it's excellent.
