The Bottom Line My project in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief is progressing but I'm not actually getting any sleep now... :-D
BMP Project Update 1 29th February, 2004 Right guys, if this sounds rather garbled then its because Ive been working from this since midnight and its now just gone half one in the morning and I really, really should be in bed right now but once I got going on this I just couldnt stop (BTW if you have no idea what the BMP Project is, read this first. New Website! Though Im also still looking for some ad-free hosting, Ive looked at AOLs and realised that the advertising on that it really very non-intrusive. So Ive set one up there now: http://hometown.aol.co.uk/Poetofthecentury/index.html. To link to it, just use the following code: Please visit the (a href="http://hometown.aol.co.uk/Poetofthecentury/index.html")BMP project website(/a) - a project in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care. As Lynda (Idusold) has pointed out, if you use this code in an epinions review, it will not work. (Though it will work in your profile page or on another webiste, which was what I was thinking of.) If you wanted to point to it in a review, you could use something like: Please visit The BMP project website by copying and pasting this link into your web browser: www.hometown.aol.co.uk/Poetofthecentury/index.html Only use < and > instead of the ( and ) Ive got there. (I really must get round to reading Mobis article showing you how to include HTML in reviews )... if you have any problems with it though, just drop me an email and I'll help. Its pretty small at the moment and I cant promise that its bug-free, what with me being sleep-deprived and all, but Ive managed to cobble together a little intro, links to Macmillan (including their online donation form but Ive set it to go to a page with a hit counter first so at least I can keep track of how many people go to donate from the site unfortunately I wont be able to find out how much actual money has been raised through this, but the important thing is that some money is going to Macmillan), a guestbook, and Please note this is only a temporary website and as such, the URL will change (and the site be improved dramatically) in the (hopefully near) future. An Ebook! I was thinking about how long it might take to get the actual book published, and since Id got a poetry ebook waiting to be published on another site (for money sigh I dont think it would have made much though!!) I thought Id offer that for free, but encouraging people to make a donation to Macmillan if they enjoyed it. So (hopefully havent tried this on AOLs hosting before) the ZIP file (517KB)is ready for download. (It unzips to a PDF file 571KB.) Other Issues Ive asked John Whitmarsh if he can also provide an ebook no response yet but Im pretty sure hell do it. His will be very interesting theyre poems hes written while on a bit of a high Id better explain that, hadnt I?!?! Well, as you will already have read, John suffers from chronic cancer and is being treated palliatively. One of the painkillers he is on called MST (Morphine sulphate) is extremely strong and, while he is extremely tired much of the time, can sometimes induce periods of, for want of a better phrase, hyper-alertness. During some of these times he has incredible spurts of creativity, and these poems are the result of those spells. Apparently theyd make young uns blush, though I couldnt comment as I havent seen them yet I have to contact a lady in the Fundraising Department of Macmillan on Monday to find out if therere any companies who might be happy to sponsor the project. The Macmillan Nurse at the hospital I work at also hinted at there being a possibility that Macmillan themselves (the charity not the mega-publisher, that is) might be interested in publishing as they have their own printing facilities. So heres hoping If you experience any problems whatsoever with the website (even if its merely a typo), please email me poetofthecentury@aol.com. I will hopefully soon be in a position to ask for the experiences etc some have promised to write, so it might be a good idea to start writing them now the tone should be realistic but up-beat its about how people cope, not how they suffer I know one person has said that this is Off Topic in Health Non-fiction, but I cant see why (and 1 out of 50-ish doesnt exactly constitute a majority or even a sizeable minority) so the updates will remain here unless someone gives me a good reason to post them elsewhere. Best regards to all, Dave |
