Oh, but they are democratic -- except perhaps to those who don't believe working people should have a true voice in determining their working conditions. They often label unions as undemocratic as an excuse to suppress them and the workers they represent. I hope you don't really believe in that bit of thankfully outmoded 19th century philosophy.

Unions are NOT democratic.

We can argue whether it's a basic human right to form unions, but it is NOT a basic democratic right. For it to be a democratic right, the people as a whole would have the power to vote on whether works could join a union.
