| Naomi7835's Full Review: Black and Decker 3.6V Cordless Power Scissors SZ3... |
I've been checking around stores for those Black & Decker 3.6V Cordless Power Scissors since last Christmas. Finally this past February I did came across them in the Home Depot store for $19.97. I've been wanting these scissors for quite some time. It seems that now a days a lot of products seem to come in those plastic blister packs, that are hard to open, and I know I've ruined a few pair of scissors trying to cut the plastic apart.
Anyway, when I got home, I took the scissors out of the bag and saw that the Black & Decker Cordless Power Scissors SZ360T had to be cut out of the plastic blister pack that it was in. This time I got my utility knife out and carefully cut the plastic edging all around and away from the scissors. I took the scissors out and noticed how light they were to hold in my hand. I pushed the slide button to (1) which is on, and nothing happened. I got out the manual that came with the scissors and read through it. Apparently the scissors have to be charged for 12 hours before you can use it. Darn I thought, now I'll have to wait until tomorrow to try them out.
I took out the charger that came with the scissors, making sure that the scissors was in the off position which is marked (0) and plugged the output cord of the charger into the socket in the end of the handle like the manual said. Then I plugged the other end of the charger into the outlet. This was 8:00 PM. The following morning a little after 8:00 AM, I unplugged the charger from the outlet and then unplugged it from the handle. I slide the button on top of the scissors forward to (1) and then squeezed the trigger which is located under the scissors. The scissors finally started to chatter and was finally working.
The Black & Decker Cordless Power Scissors SZ360T are red in color and are about 8 inches long from the tip of the blades to the end of the handle. The black Ergonomic design on the top and the bottom of the scissors gives your hands a comfortable grip when using them.
The trigger to start the scissors is located underneath the scissors right where your fingers are positioned. On top of the scissors there is a sliding button. If you slide the button to (1) and squeeze the trigger it will make the scissors run. When you release the trigger it will shut off the scissors. If you slide the button to (0) it will lock the trigger for recharging or storing when the scissors are not in use.

CUTTING FLEECE MATERIAL:
The first thing I used the Black & Decker Scissors on was some fleece material which I'm making blankets for Christmas for my 3 grand daughters twin beds. I already made one, and I'm now making a second one. These blankets that I'm making are no sew blankets. What I did was take 2 large pieces of fleece material, keeping the design side on top and the plain side on the bottom, pinned them together, and spread the fabric out on my kitchen table. Then using the Black & Decker Scissors I cut 5 inch strips by 1/4 inch wide up and all along the edges of the fleece material. The first blanket that I made I had to cut these strips with my household scissors. It took a while to cut them and I had to stop every now and then to rest my hands, because I do have a little arthritis in my fingers. At first the Black & Decker scissors seemed a little loud, but as I continued to cut the strips, I did get use to the chattering of the scissors. WOW, I thought, this is great, the scissors had great speed and it didn't take me long to cut all of the strips along the four sides of the fabric. This blanket is a twin size blanket so it did take a lot of cutting many strips. I felt no stress in my fingers or my hand either, like I did when I was cutting the fabric with my household scissors. The power of the scissors was quite fast and did a nice job on cutting straight strips in no time at all.
After the strips were all cut, all I had to do was tie the top strip to the bottom strip in a knot. Once I did this all around the four sides, the blanket was finally done. Now all I have left to do is make one more blanket for Christmas for the girls. It really was a breeze cutting the strips with these Black & Decker Power Scissors.
CUTTING OUT PLASTIC:
When my curling iron had stopped heating up a few months ago I knew I had to buy a new curling iron. My new Conair curling iron came in a plastic blister pack. I new then that this was my chance to see how well these Black & Decker Cordless Power Scissors did cut into those hard plastic edges in those blister packs. I started on one side to try to cut into the plastic, but the edges of the plastic was quite thick and I had a hard time trying to get just the right angle in the plastic. So I decided to try and cut the top part of the plastic pack. On top there is a hole in the plastic where the curling iron was hung up for display. I noticed that the plastic was not as thick there. Placed the blades near the hole and the scissors finally started to cut. I went all around into the inner part of the plastic where it was a little thinner and managed to cut around all sides of the plastic package and finally removed the curling iron. I was quite satisfied on how well the Black & Decker Cordless Power Scissors really cut through the plastic.
I like to do a lot of different craft projects, and these Black & Decker Scissors have come in handy for me. I've used them for cutting ribbon, lace, heavy fabrics and even foam board. I make designs in felt squares to cut out for craft projects and found the scissors didn't do such a great job making turns in cutting out the design. I think it's because the scissors cut too fast for making small and delicate turns. So I just use my regular household scissors for cutting out the delicate cutting jobs.
But if you like to sew a lot these scissors will really come in handy for cutting fabric materials out, for quilting and cutting patterns out. Their especially great if you have arthritis, or Carpal-Tunnel in your hands. The scissors are lightweight and very comfortable to hold in your hands. I've found no pain in my fingers or cramping in my hands whenever I've used them and these scissors work well, if your right handed or left handed.
CUTTING CARDBOARD UP:
The other day my husband was cleaning out our basement, and came across 2 cardboard boxes that he didn't need anymore. I suggested he use the Black & Decker scissors to cut them up which would make it easier to dispose of them. Usually he just stomps on cardboard with his feet which then flattens them out so he can dispose of them. He was surprised to see how well the scissors whipped through the cardboard and cut it up into several pieces. When trash day came he tied the cardboard pieces together and put them in our recycle bucket along with some papers and magazines. This was just another Black & Decker Cutting job well done.
CUTTING DENIM:
My husband had 2 pairs of denim jeans that were in pretty bad shape. The legs had a few rips and some paint stains on them. He wanted me to cut them off and make some cut offs for him just to wear around the house. Now you know the side seams in denim jeans are quite thick and hard to cut through even with plain scissors. But the Black & Decker Scissors cut through the side seams in nothing flat. I hemmed the cut offs for him and now my husband is happy.
I've even used the scissors to cut out that plastic from around those Dr. Scholls massaging Insoles that come sealed in plastic also. Last week my husband installed a new Pollenex Shower head in our shower, and the scissors did a nice job on cutting out the plastic blister pack. If you've purchase any items that hang up for display in the store, it's easy to cut through the plastic if you start cutting on the top where the hole is. Being the plastic on top is thinner, it's a lot easier to get the scissors started so that you can then cut easily around the plastic blister pack.
Now you may have a hard time cutting into products that are packed in blister packs that are not hung up in the store. A good idea that I found that works for me is to take a utility knife or a razor blade and carefully cut a slit in the thinner part of the plastic and then insert the blade of the scissors there where it will make it easy to continue cutting all around the plastic.
I plan on getting a cordless phone for the bedroom next week, and I'm sure I will be cutting that plastic blister pack that the phone will be packaged in. I'm just glad that I do have these Black & Decker Scissors to be able to do that, and I don't have to use razor blades, scissors or a utility knife to cut all around the blister packs like I had to do before.
I haven't used the Mountable Table Clamp for stationary uses yet, but when I do I will come back and update on how well that went.
WARNING:
These Black & Decker Scissors should be stored up away from small children, as the blades on these scissors are very sharp. If older children are using the Scissors, an adult should be there for supervision. I keep mine in my kitchen cabinet in a box, on a shelf so they can be used any time by my husband as well as myself.
WARRANTY AND SERVICE INFORMATION:
The Black & Decker Cordless Power Scissors does come with a 2 year Warranty. And if you do have a question, a problem, repair or need replacement parts you can call 1-800-544-6986.
So far the first charge has lasted me even though I've used it several times in the past few months, and the blades have still remained sharp even after several uses also. When the scissors no longer cut then it's time to recharge the scissors once again.
CON:
The only con that I can say about these Black & Decker Cordless Power Scissors is that some people may not like the chattering noise of the scissors, but after using the scissors for a while now I've gotten pretty use to the noise.
MY FINAL THOUGHTS:
I really purchased this Black & Decker Cordless Power Scissors SZ360T mainly for cutting out those plastic blister packs. But I soon found out that the scissors where quite useful for cutting many other surfaces as well. I found them especially great for cutting out my crafts projects. I've been very pleased on how well they have performed. It's made my cutting experiences a lot easier and a lot less painful on my fingers and hands, and the soft comfortable grip of the scissors makes it a lot easier to hold in my hands. I'm just glad that I finally found these Black & Decker Cordless Power Scissors as it makes all of my cutting jobs a lot easier to do.
Thanks for reading!!
