Bangj's 10 Thriller flicks

The Bottom Line Looking for great movies with thrilling twists and chilling moments? Look no further.

Here’s my list on the 10 best thrillers of all time. All these movies are great and are bound to get you on the edge of your seat. There are no old classic movies on here like Psycho or North by Northwest. They’re mainly newer movies since the oldest one is only from 1980. Regardless of when they were made these films are filled with thrills and spills and great twists.

10. Bone Collector (1999)
This movie only just made it on the list. It follows the story of two cops (Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie) that must find a serial killer that leaves clues after he kills his victims. The problem is that Denzel’s character is a quadriplegic so Jolie’s character must be his eyes and ears as she investigates the crime scenes. A lot of gripping and thrilling moments.

9. Scream (1996)
This movie is great. It reinvented the horror genre and launched many new young actors’ careers. It follows the story of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and her friends who are being stalked by a psycho in a horror costume who stalks his victims like in a horror movie. This movie will keep you guessing who the murderer is until the very end.

8. Identity (2003)
Quite a new movie, and is one of the best thrillers that have come out in a while. Ten strangers (including Ray Liota and John Cusack) that are all caught in a huge storm find shelter at a local motel. They can’t leave the motel because everywhere is flooded, then one by one they start getting killed in strange ways. This movie also contains a huge twist that you won’t see coming. Very good stuff.

7. Silence of the lambs (1991)
One of the most talked about and disturbing thrillers of all time, and with one of the most known and feared characters in it, this is a pretty creepy movie. Several young women are being found skinned around town and a young FBI agent (Jodie Foster) is sent to investigate the crimes. She soon finds help with Hannibal Lector (Anthony Hopkins) who gives her clues about what to do to find this killer. Fantastic performances by Hopkins and Foster combined with the chilling scenes with Hannibal Lector makes this a great movie.

6. Wild Things (1998)
This movie would be an absolute mess if it weren’t for they stylish way it was put together. It starts off with two High school girls accusing a teacher of rape, but then becomes something else entirely. This movie has so many twists that you won’t know who is with who or where anyone is going. The end brings it all together though and you finally know what has happened. Top stuff.

5. Se7en (1995)
Another great movie. It follows two detectives (Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman) who are trying to track down a serial killer. This is no ordinary killer though, he doesn’t kill out of hate or anger, he uses the seven deadly sins as his motive. The two detectives must find him before his masterpiece (as he calls it) is complete. Quite disturbing but very gripping and tense.

4. The Sixth Sense (1999)
This great movie follows the story of a child Psychologist Dr. Crow (Bruce Wills) and his newest patient (Haley Joel Osment) who claims he can see dead people. He can’t understand his powers and is terrified every time he sees one of the dead spirits. He has only told the doctor about his powers. A Dr. Crow finds out more about his condition it leads both of them to thrilling and unexpected consequences. Fantastic movie.

3. The Shining (1980)
This movie is an absolute classic. This movie is pretty scary as you watch this normal family start seeing ghosts and things that aren’t really there. Jack Nicholson is fantastic as the Husband who goes mad from cabin fever. Very creepy and very gripping. “Here’s Johnny!”

2. Vanilla Sky (2001)
This movie is not on any of the other lists in this category, and it’s understandable because many may not think it is a real thriller. David Ames (Tom Cruise) falls in love with a girl named Sofia (Penelope Cruz), so a jealous ex-lover Julie (Cameron Diaz) gets him in a car and drives off a bridge. This kills Julie and disfigures Davids face. Then when he gets back with Sofia weird, creepy things start to happen and David starts to see things that aren’t real. Great movie with a cool ending.

1. Memento (2001)
While looking through the other opinions on this category, I only saw this movie mentioned twice. That is a shame because this is a fantastic thriller, my favourite of them all. It follows the quest of Leonard Shelby (Guy Pearce) who’s life is dedicated to finding the person responsible for raping and killing his wife. There’s only one problem, he can’t make new memories since the incident because he was thrown headfirst into a mirror. He writes down notes and gets tattoos whenever he finds new information. So if you’re looking for an original, fresh, great thriller with twists and turns look no further.

That’s about it. I’ll see ya later fellas.
