Great RV and camping facility near Columbus Ohio: Cross Creek Resort

Written: Jun 24 '07 (Updated Jan 01 '09)
Pros:Clean restrooms, pool, facilities, clean park, customer service, lots of campsites
Cons:Rates a little higher than state park. I do not know if wi-fi works.
The Bottom Line: If you want a clean park, clean restrooms, and lots of nearby attractions, I highly recommend Cross Creek Camping Resort near Columbus, Ohio.

Cross Creak Camping Resort is a RV park and campgrounds located near Ohio's Alum Creek State park. Alum Creek State park features a large lake with fishing, beaches, and marina. Camping rates start at $26 per night on weekdays. The resort is located in Delaware county, Ohio, in a suburban area of Columbus, Ohio.

Customer Service
The staff at cross creek is very friendly. You can make reservations over the phone. Payment is required when you make the reservation. When you arrive, they will normally help you locate a site that will meet your needs.

Cross Creek Camping Resort is the winner of the 2003/2004 ARVC ( National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds ) in the mid-sized parks category. According to the ARVC website, “the ARVC Awards of Excellence recognize the accomplishments of members in operations, marketing, management and industry”. Great accomplishment for Cross Creek!

You can call Cross Creek at 800-988-CAMP. Their website is http://www.alumcreek.com/ccr/index.htm. The website contains information about rates, special activities, and amenities.

Park Appearance and Cleanliness

The restrooms at Cross Creek are probably the cleanest that you will find at any campgrounds! They also have several maintenance staff that regularly pickup any liter or perform other maintenance (such as tree trimming, cleaning up fire pits, spraying for weeds, cutting the grass, etc.)

My experiences
We have camped three times at Cross Creek. We went around July 4th weekend in 2001. In 2004, we went for a week in mid-June. In 2007, we went again for a week in early June. Each stay has been pleasant. The main selling point, I think, is the cleanliness of the restrooms and park.

One of the times we went to Cross Creek, our camper was having electrical problems. The staff was very helpful and helped us to do some testing to make sure that the problem was not with their outlet.

We have been pleased with the campgrounds, customer service, cleanliness, and amenities. We did try to the Wi-fi access but for some reason it did not work. We did not check into it further since it was not really important. The pool is great. I think Cross Creek also allows some locals to use the pool. It is good to know they have a lifeguard when the pool is open. Attractions that are close-by include the Columbus Zoo, Alum Creek park and beach, and COSI (Columbus Ohio Science and Industry Museum).

Overall, I give Cross Creek Camping Resort a five-star rating.

HAPPY camping!!
