Pros: 8MB of memory...I only need one card for all my games.
Cons: Doesn't come with the machine.
The Bottom Line: Great memory card...$34.99 is a bit steep, though.

| Alkaiser's Full Review: Sony 8MB Memory Card PS2 |
Of all the "memory card" type peripherals for all the consoles, I like the PS2's card the best. The Playstation 1 card had far too little memory, so I bought a 3rd party card.
The Dreamcast's VMU ate batteries like crazy, and on top of that, still didn't hold enough information, so I bought a 3rd party one.
I didn't even bother checking out Nintendo's proprietary memory pack, and I bought a third party one that came with a rumble pak for less than an official N64 one would have cost.
But, the Japanese PS2 I won on ebay came with one memory card, and I haven't had the need to pick another one up yet. I've gone through saves of at least 10-15 games, and I haven't had to swap out the card yet. 8MB is a whole lot of space.
The latest game I'm playing, Ring of Red, needs about 400K to create a 3 slot save file for the game. At that rate of data storage, I can save about 20 games. I don't think I'll be needing a 3rd party Super Memory Card for my PS2 anytime in the foreseeable future.
The styling is exactly the same as the old PS1 memory cards. I don't think they come in any colors besides white (which is pretty rare) and black.
One of the things you'll notice pretty quick is that if you try and save your data from a PS1 game, you can save it on that PS2...a bit of annoyance, but I understand...the cards are different in terms of hardware, and getting the software to work with the new hardware would be a pain in the butt. So, for those of you looking to just compile all your old PS1 memory cards onto one big PS2 card, you're out of luck.
Data transfer rate is pretty nice. It's about the same speed to load a game as it was on the PS1, and the new cards are pushing a lot more data.
The price is a bit of a setback because it isn't included in the box. You can get a 16MB memory card for the same price, but until I start getting at least 4 times the memory, I stick with 1st party over 3rd party, but that's your call, you'll have to decide for yourself.
For me, the Sony memory cars is a pretty good value for a stock memory card, and finally offers gamers a method of saving that won't have them deleting save files from other games for a good while.
