| susieq112's Full Review: The Antler Inn, Jackson, WY |
We had finally reached our first destination on our recent vacation. Jackson, Wyoming is a bustling mountain town with a lot of character. The town has become vastly popular in the winter for its near by ski resort and even more popular in the summer months for its shops, restaurants and night life, not to mention it is only miles from Grand Teton National Park. We entered town planning on spending three or so nights in town. We had been here many times before and after shopping around we decided to stay at the same hotel we had lodged at the last time we were there, The Antler Inn.
The Antler Inn is particularly convenient because of its location. Jackson itself is prime real estate being 10 miles from the Tetons and a mere 55 miles from Yellowstone, but in Jackson, The Antler Inn is only 1 block away from the town center, which means easy parking and a short walk to all of the food, shops and entertainment you could want or need.
The Antler Inn offers three types of rooms a regular room with log furnishings, a cedar log room and fireplace rooms. During our previous visit we had stayed in a fireplace room, but during this visit we stayed in a regular room, because the last thing we needed was a fireplace for my one year old to play in.
Entering our room at The Antler Inn gave us the impression of a run down hotel room that should have cost half the price we were paying. At first glance the room was fairly clean, but it held some problems. The room is set up with two doors, one at the front part of the room for an outside entrance and an additional one at the rear of the room for an indoor entrance.
The back part of the room consists of three small areas; a toilet and full bath with shower in a small room with a locking door, a small sink and vanity with mirror, and a small mud room area with two benches and a hanging area for clothes. Hanging next to the benches was an iron and ironing board.
The main area of the room consisted of two full size beds that were obviously older, flat and hard. The bedding was clean, but some of it needed to be replaced because one blanket we pulled off for my sons playpen had a large set-in stain that looked like it may have been Kool-Aid. A side table was placed between the two beds with a lamp and alarm clock on top of it. In front of the window next to the front entrance was a small table with two chairs and a heat/AC unit was below the window.
Across from the beds was a tall cabinet with a refrigerator inside and a coffee maker on top, A desk with a high back chair and a telephone, and a TV stand with a small color TV that featured plenty of channels. There was also three drawers on the TV stand under the TV.
The Antler Inn offers few amenities for its guest. The do have Ice and Vending Machines located on each floor at the end of the hall way. Fresh coffee and cookies were available near the front of the hotel, in a room behind the check-in desk, at all times, but no type of breakfast is served.
As I said we did have a few problems with our room, one of my major problems was the state of the carpet. The carpet was so dirty it turned my sons feet black in a matter of minutes and the carpeting was even worse in the hallway when I went to get ice. Other problems included: A leaking knob on the sink that overflowed every time we turned the sink on, The door on the AC/Heat Unit was broken, exposing the adjustment knobs, My one year old son had a ball with this and remembered it in the next hotel too, and the toilet ran on and off.
Overall
Overall I was absolutely not impressed with The Antler Inn during this stay. The hotel seems to have been run down quite a bit and doesnt seem to be getting the care it needs. As it sits it is the cheapest hotel room with accommodations within walking distance of the town square, but it just isnt worth the short walk. While the room was clean in respect to the tables, towels, and bathroom being clean. The carpet needs a serious clean and not with just a vacuum cleaner, the room also obviously had some serious issues that needed tending too.
One of my main concerns on this trip, however, was the safety of my son. So one major thing we did upon entering a new hotel room was to look for dangerous things like loose wires, outlets and such. The Antler Inn actually did fare well in this department. I did have to put outlet covers in two exposed outlets but other than that all of the wiring for the TV, phones, refrigerator were all very well hidden and out of sight.
In the end three years ago we liked this hotel enough that we decided to stay at it again on this vacation. Unfortunately after this visit I can say with full assuredness that we will not be returning to The Antler Inn for a third time.
