Pros: Easy to maneuver, lots of different levels, fun for any age
Cons: My 7 year old beat me.
The Bottom Line: Easy and fun to play, Crash Team Racing will grab you by the seat of your pants and take you for a virtual ride!

My nephew stopped in today. He joined the service and wanted to give my girls some of his Playstation games before he left. They were at his home a few months ago, and he noticed how much they liked playing them. Well, one of the games was Crash Team Racing. With school resuming, I got a bit bored today and played it for a while. What a fun game.
Aren't You A Bit Old To Be Playing Games
Ah, not at all my friend. I look at the time spent playing the game today as a veritable driving experience. I mean, now I'll know how to handle myself, if I ever need to drive in a tube, on the beach, or in a castle. Ok, ok, thats a bit on the drastic side.. but in reality, it is a fun game for everyone. Even the moms who hide their video game addiction from their children.
Don't Tell Me How To Drive
Alright, I won't. I'll tell you about the levels in the game. The game is set up with five different levels. Three of these are for multiple players. We'll talk about the single player games first.
Adventure
In this level, one player races seven other computer players to win the coveted first place trophy. There are keys hidden in various places (while racing) and if you collect so many of these, new racetracks open up for you to play.
Time Trial
This is the best way to play in my epinion. You choose which track you want to run, and then try to beat the best score. The best score is set by you, for each time you do that track faster than the last time.
Arcade
One or two players can play in this level. Choose the difficulty that best suits the players need and begin to race. If its only one player, the computer racers join you.
VS
This is a fun chance to race against someone else in your home. Pitting husband against wife, daughter against mom, dad against daughter.. the heat is on. The racing is fast, but the family gets wild! This can be played by two to four people. *Note: Getting grounded and being made to sleep on couches can happen in case of sore losers. Use caution! =)*
Battle Mode
You try to hit your opponent with various weapons to score points. If you get five points(hits) on your opponent, you win. Four players can compete in the four different game areas for this kind of game play.
WEAPONS? DID SHE SAY WEAPONS?
Yeah, but nothing to bad. Some of the weapons used in the game are a clock (causes opponents time to stand still), beaker full of red liquid (causes rain clouds), TNT & NITRO boxes (BOOM.. lol), Rockets, and a smartbomb that targets you no matter how you hide (I never get this one, but the kids sure do!).
Better Selection Than McDonalds?
I think so. You have a choice of 8 different racers. Each racer has different qualities. Some are faster, some take corners better, some are good all over. Its also a winner in the little girls department, because a few of the racers are girls and cutesy animals. As far as course selection, in the Arcade, Vs, and Time trial game levels, there are 9 different areas that you can play in.
What Kind Of Courses?
There's a mining cave, wooden ramp high in the sky, two ice courses, two arenas, three different underground courses, and a castle. Whew. :)
How About The Sound and Graphics?
The sounds in this game crack me up. Each player has different sayings due to their standpoint in the game. If one falls off the screen, he yells "oh mah gosh", another one says "bandicoot power!", when she takes off quickly. The background sounds are right on track too. If going over wooden planks, you hear the sound of tires on wooden planks. They did a great job here. The graphics are really awesome. Its like really being there. The scenes are never slow to change from one to another. From the skidmarks on the floor to the confetti blowing in the air, its great from beginning to end.
How Does It Compare To Other Racing Games?
The only one I can compare this to is the older Mario Kart. That was a racing game I loved. All I can say when comparing the two, Mario Kart comes in in second place. It doesn't begin to compare to the addicting fun that Crash Team Racing sets you up for.
