The Bottom Line Here they are, in all their glory.
Here is my list of the top 10 Horror movies. These movies are bound to have you scared and gasping for air. These movies range from old classics (The exorcist) to new films (Blair Witch Project). Regardless of what year they are from they are guaranteed to scare.
10. Pet Cemetery (1989)
As a family moves to a new house, they find out about a Pet cemetery built on an old Indian burial ground which is said to have the powers to resurrect the dead. A few days later when their cat dies they decide to bury it there. The next day it comes back to life, but with evil in its eyes. Shortly after they are tempted to use the cemetery again when their son is in a tragic accident. The boy also comes back, but he is very evil and is not the same boy they remember. Cool ending.
9. Childs Play (1988)
One of the creepiest horror characters appears in this movie, a childs doll named Chuckie! The film is about a doll with a murders spirit within it that is purchased by a woman for her son. All seems fine until the son starts talking to it as if its a real person. Then there are a number of murders that occur that all point straight to the son and the doll. Hi Im chuckie, Wanna play!
8. The Exorcist (1973)
This is one of the most famous, and scary, horror movies that have ever been released. It tells the horrific tale of a young girl named Regen (Linda Blair) who has been possessed by the devil. Her mother then calls in an exorcist to see if he can exorcise the demo within her. Great and famous scenes in this movie include the 360-head twist that Regan performs. Many people say that this is the scariest movie of all time.
7. Halloween (1978)
A famous and successful film series started off with this classic first movie. On Halloween night in 1963 a 6-year-old boy named Michael Myers kills his teenage sister with a knife for no reason at all. He is sent to a Mental hospital where no doctor can find out what is wrong with him. Then, in 1978 he escapes the day before Halloween and returns to his hometown and discovers a girl named Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis). Now she keeps seeing him everywhere and he appears to be stalking her. Great movie.
6. Blair Witch Project (1999)
Out of all the movies on this list, this movie scared me the most. Its strange because most movies dont scare me much, but I thought this movie was terrifying! There was something about the acting, it just all seemed so real. As three students are out in the forest making a documentary on the Blair Witch, strange things start to happening around them. Like piles of rocks appearing out of nowhere and the cries of children being heard late at night. This movie freaked me out!
5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
This is possibly the greatest horror film ever. Many people agree that it is the most disturbing movie ever made. The movie is about four teenagers that go out to investigate a grave robbing. But on the way they become lost and one by one they fall into the Clutches of the evil Leatherface and his twisted clan of cannibals. Although the film isnt as gory as youd expect it is still very scary.
4. Scream (1996)
This is the slasher movie reinvented the horror genre and launched many new young actors careers. It follows the story of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and her friends who are being stalked by a psycho in a horror costume who stalks his victims like in a horror movie. The movie opens up with a very brutal murder. Even though the movie (and its sequels) are quite scary and gory, they are actually quite funny and never take themselves too seriously. Good stuff.
3. The Shining (1980)
This movie is great. Its about a family who agrees to watch a hotel during the holiday. As the movie progresses the family starts seeing ghosts and other creepy things. Famous scenes include the hedge maze where Nicholsons character chases after his son with an axe or the scene where he chops a hole in the door and screams the classic line Heres Johnny! Jack Nicholson does a terrific job playing the Husband who goes mad. Stephen Kings version of the Shining is no where near as good as this classic.
2. Friday the 13th (1980)
One of the most famous horror movie franchises started off with this great first installment. The weird thing is that this movie didnt have Jason appearing in it. While a bunch of teenagers are at a camp, they start disappearing and are being found dead. Who is stalking them? This movie is quite gory but never over the top. One of my favourite horror movies of all time.
1. Nightmare on elm street (1984)
Wes Cravens Classic slasher. This movie came out when the horror genre looked old and boring and gave it new life. Teenagers in a small town are seeing disturbing images of a man with a burnt face in their dreams, little do they know that it is Freddy Crueger who was a child murderer that theyre parents killed years ago.Now hes back to kill their children. This movie has some great scenes in it, like the famous scene where a young Johnny Depp is sucked into his bed, then blood bursts out like a fire hydrant. Fantastic horror movie, which is the best Ive ever seen.
Thats my list, hope you liked it. Im out.
Later fellas.
