| lost_one's Full Review: Asus A7V |
After a while looking for the best board for my new system I decided to go for the a7v, by the time I got it (march 01), the standard model was the a7v133 which sports a sound card and a modem on board.
Asus has been known to manufacture the best Mobos in the market for a while, and the Via chipset only helps the a7v become a real rock. It's awesomely stable.
I only have 1 real complaint about this board :
If you want to use the ATA 100 interfaces on it you will have a lot of work in Linux, and a bit of work on win 2k. The promise ATA 100 interface is not recognized by these
OSes right away and you must muddle with the Drivers for it.
On Win 2K it's quite easy, just unpack the driver on a floppy before installation, and on the begging of the installation, when prompted about the need of a SCSI adapter
driver you should enter the promise drivers. On Linux it's much more involved and not worth mentioning here.
You can obviously just use the standard IDE interfaces which also come with the board, and all problems are gone.
All in all, a great board which I really recommend.
