You're making me nostalgic. I miss my "L." I miss my hobos threatening me and hitting on me at the same time.

Something Appealing About Plain Speaking People... (Reply to this comment)
by the_gas_man
Hi Chuck,
Can't help but feeling like I could get away with so much more if I was only twenty or so years older. Yet, you've recently tackled some very controversial topics with your usual humor, and plain speaking style, in ways I could only wish to emulate. (I may yet try.)
Your writing style has continued to expand in ways I didn't quite expect and please remember I was one of the first ten people to place you on my so-called "WOT" way back in April 2002.
I always get a laugh out of your writing and I mean that in the best possible way. Unique to say the least and that is the highest compliment I can think of.
Best regards and always yours,
Gasman
(P.S. I live near Toronto where Gay marriages are legal. Although I've always had an "icky" feeling about that, you put it in perspective nicely. Good job.)

Why Jan!
Unless you've grown an appendage, or bought one from the local naughty store. I don't remember being ridden by you. (but don't get me wrong I've been a little out of my mind lately with this illness I won't deny or tell anyone) Wait was that you last Monday night at El Ranch De Haggis? (Gasp) Were you in disguise? This is becoming a habit around good ole eps here. OOooo what yummy fun.
The L train is great fun, yes it is. I'm sure we would be the talk of Ep's had you ridden Misc_el.
I have to note the reason Stocky hasn't been able to reply much or post very often is all my fault, when I'm not working for the Harem he's there with a fresh bath for me (as apposed to a you know what bath... ba dap chee) and massages with all natural essential oils from neck to toe. (Don't worry Jan, he uses Natures sunshine so I won't need to list any ingredients, all natural baby, just the way I like it)
So thanks for the Freudian slip....oops I made a Dr. Freudine funny, but I just don't recall that it happen.
XOXO

That would be so traumatic to see that hand. I've ridden the El too and really enjoyed your memories. Look forward to the sequel!

Can You Believe That..... (Reply to this comment)

after 27 years living in the city, I have only taken the train 3 times? Perhaps we were on the same train! I can promise you that I was not the woman with the gas problem, however!
Another very interesting story, Stock, about my kind of town!
My best,
Deborah~

Hi Stock,
A nice slice of daily life.
Did you know that the ABA (American Butt Association) list second hand gas as a major health concern. Worse than first hand gas, unless you huff it.
Just thought youŽd like to know.

Atlanta has its problems, too. Traffic is horrible, road rage goes on here too, and there's a crime problem, too. But then every big city is pretty much like that. Shove a whole lot of people into a small area and you're bound to have problems. Your story of Gas Woman is allegorical of the problem, I think, symbolic of all that's wrong with urban life today. Dickens (or Upton Sinclair at the least) would be proud of you.
But hey. At least you have those wonderful Chicago Hot Dogs and some really great microbrews to get you through it all.
Cheers!

Hi Sweetie,
This brought back some fond memories of my Mom and I riding the train to go to the inner City on day trips. I loved riding the train. I wish we had one here.
It also brought back a sad memory.
It's so strange to think that it's been over 20 years ago my family first moved to Chicago and a short time after that when I heard what is now known as "Road rage".
A man was cut off by a station wagon during rush hour on Dan Ryan Expressway on a blazing hot summer day. The station wagon carried a family of seven. The driver of the first car became angry, pulled out a gun and fired at the station wagon. I'm sure his intent was to hurt or even kill it's driver, but instead his bullet went straight into the head of a 14 year old girl sitting in the back. She died instantly.
I was 12, I remember thinking then how horrible it was. It was all over the news.
Today these things happen all the time.
Three years ago a friend of mine was driving home from his parents who live in an area known as "Haughville" (as it has "Haugh" street running across 16th to 10th street) here in Indiananapolis. It's east of the 500 race track. (It's not known as one of our finer area's)
He was at a stop light when the car behind him unloaded his gun into my 6' 3" 215 lb friend who ran the light and drove himself 43 seconds (I know this because I've drove his path many times and have counted, for some reason I find I hold my breath as I count) down the street to a fire station where he stepped out of his truck and died.
The firemen were amazed he made it that far.
Jimmy's death didn't make the paper either, just the obituary.
