Pros:You want fear - you got it!!!!
Cons:Slow starting- could have had a better ending.
The Bottom Line: If you want true fear - not gross blood and guts this movie delivers.

Mike Enslin is an author who writes on the paranormal and the occult. He has been in search of ghosts for a few years and has to turn up anything. When he receives a postcard advising him not to stay in room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel in New York he jumps on the chance. His curiuosity rises as the hotel tells him the room is not available. After his legal rights prove that he can stay in the room as long as it is not occupied, he travels for a nights stay. The hotel tries everything to stop him from staying in the room but he refuses to believe that no guest has lasted longer than an hour. His first impression of the room is that of a usual hotel room, usual pictures, usual furniture, television, etc. But it does not take long for him to realize this is not his regular room. The next hour shows Mike his own demons as well as other demons. Trying to maintain his sanity, he tries many things over that hour including trying to get out of the room - but he is forced to stay in and face the demons.

This movie was awesome. Stephen King definitely came through. It has been a long time since I have went to a horror movie that made me jump and scream. My 14 year old daughter and I both love horror movies but always fail to have fear. After this movie, we will be sleeping together with the lights on. Needless to say, I don't know if I could ever stay in a hotel again.

John Cusack provides a gripping performance - making sure that you feel the fear. Samuel Jackson plays a small part but his acting skills shine through none the less.

The movie was a bit slow getting started but within 25 minutes you start to feel the fear. The middle is full of surprises, jumps and fear. The ending could have been different but I do understand the point of the end.

This movie included suicide scences, death scenes and scenes that are not recommended for children under thirteen.
