Nicotine replacement helps. Groups can help. There are websites that can help. But what is important is that you want to quit

I hope you see this. When you're ready, you'll quit. It's now 13 September (just), and still...I'm smoke free. Sometimes I hate it... but I'm still not smoking. This will be you :)

Cheers,
Kate

Almost ready to quit (Reply to this comment)

But still working up the courage to do it. Hubby smokes also, which will make this very hard, but I am so ready, if I could only get past the fears.

Struggling with this myself at the moment and not doing nearly so well. You are soooo right about that single puff! But it was encouraging to read this, so thanks.

........Kate! I know how hard it is, but you're doing it. :)

I have a similar thing on my puter that informs me that I have been smoke free 4Y 2M 3W 3D and 1H. I have NOT smoked 92,704 cigarettes. I have saved $13,905.65 (wow where the heck is that money? lol) and I'ved added 45W 6D 21H and 20M to my life. (they better be darned good weeks though ..lol)

I've often thought of taking that meter off of my computer, but seeing my progress is still very important to me. I almost never want a cigarette anymore, but I do have times still where I automatically reach for them.

I have decided that when I'm 80 I'm gonna start smoking and drinking again......that'll give me something to look forward too.

I wish you only the best on your continued success. Way To Go!! Make it a great day.......kath

What I REALLY wish is that I’d never started smoking

I know exactly what you mean. Congratulations on quitting - I did so 10 years ago, and the cravings do go away. They really do. I should do the math and figure out the money I've saved some time - then take myself on a vacation with it.........:)

Good luck -

I am seriously thinking of going to visit my mum in the States next months - fares are SO cheap, and the pound is so strong.

Watch this space!

I've never been a smoker, and I have to be honest and say I detest cigarette smoke. My mother smoked for 18 years and quit when I was about 8 years old. I have *vivid* memories of what a hellish time it was for the entire household when she was trying to quit. So though I can relate only to a certain extent, my sympathies go out to you in your struggle. I know from her experience that the cravings do eventually disappear completely, even if it might take years.

Here's a thought: why don't you start saving that ciggie fund in a literal way. Get a piggy bank. Put the cash in there that you'd otherwise have spent on cigs. In a few months time, my guess is you'll have enough for a nice trip somewhere. Then you can travel, and come back to epinions to write a travel review or two! You can brag about how you paid for it all with your smoking cessation dividend.

Congrats, and hang in there!

Just think of all the money you're saving by not smoking - you can use it to take a nice trip somewhere for your first smoke-free anniversary! :) Good luck!!
