Pros: return of favourite actors and characters, witty yet cheesy script, engaging action
Cons: More of the same, an increasing character set becoming unwieldy
The Bottom Line: A good distraction from everyday mundanity, leaves a light and humourous taste that will keep you smiling after leaving the theatre

| selivia's Full Review: Ocean's Thirteen |
If last years movie program was sprinkled heavily with sequels and remakes, this year is going for the higher numbers. Another movie following hard in the footsteps of previous offerings and relying on an established audience is Oceans Thirteen. This third serving missed comparisons with the other third movies by being released after the May rush for big box office takes.
Oceans Thirteen continues the amusing saga of Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and his associates helmed by Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) and Linus Caldwell (Matt Damon). The rest of the team are too numerous to list but if you know the franchise, be assured they are all back adding their specialties to the mix.
There is something amusingly ironic about a group of criminals meting out their brand of justice to wealthier and less scrupulous men who hide their shady dealings behind a façade of big business. And that business is gamboling, with all the pizzaz and high rolling hype of Las Vegas.
As the story opens, one of their number, the elderly Reuben Tishkoff (Elliott Gould) has been duped by his business partner Willy Bank (Al Pacino) and forced out of the rewards for hard work and heavy investment with a mere pittance. Ocean and his friends rush to the rescue with a powerful, all encompassing, retribution plan. The core of the story is not new, but the way they effect their plots and plans is as innovative as we have come to expect from this team.
The actors appear to have a good deal of fun delivering cheesy lines and exaggerated facial expressions which get a snicker from audiences. The ensemble work well together, and the action is nicely balanced as it follows the multiple arms of the plan as it unfolds.
This is a mildly amusing distraction from daily mundanity and delivers exactly what it proposed and what could be expected from the previous movies in this franchise.
