Four. Years. Later.
I put in "home design software", and I get ...
Adobe Creative Suite.
I hope ePinions is helpful to someone, cause, if they can't get a simple defaul-AND search right in *8 years*, they're sure not any help to me.

and she's following me around.
;-)
I seem to be developing a fan club, actually, if my comment patterns are any indicator. Guess i better git a'writin; wouldn't want to let anyone down.
Do we, in fact, know if anyone from staff is reading the comments on this topic, folks?

You certainly aren't the only one, trust me! Yesterday I asked Grace to add a book to the database so I could review it. She quickly found it was already there and was even kind about pointing this out.
;)
Epinions finally added a search by ISBN for books, although that doesn't help in other categories. Hey wait - what other categories are there, anyhow?

But, as I noted, the particular problem I'm having dates back, pretty much, to day one, and it's a common one -- I've seen it many times in 20 years of software design and programming.
I'm pretty sure that really all they need to do is change their default from OR to AND.
Interestingly, I tried searching for "shrink AND rap"... and got only 2 hits, the first of which was the book I was looking for... so clearly, their engine is *capable* of doing the right thing.
But in general, the site seems much less moribund than it seemed in olden days, and that's a good thing; hopefully, there are some staffers reading this particular category as well...
Thanks.

I'm really glad that hadassahchana was able to help you out. She's a nice lady!
The search engine has been a pain in the backside to members for a long time now. Epinions has been doing some work on the Books database recently, so we're hoping that they are heading in the right direction.
When looking for books, I highly recommend the ISBN search. Just enter the ISBN without spaces or dashes and search. It works like a charm with books that have been entered through the third party data feed but does have some problems finding products that the CLs add. However, I find that it works far more often than it doesn't, and the result set is never more than one or two items. (In theory, it should only have 0 or 1 items in the result set, but occasionally dups appear in the database.)
Finally, if you ever can't find something, go ahead and email the CLs for the section where it should be. I promise that we don't call people names or anything like that if the item turns out to be in the database after all. (Not unless you make 50 requests and all 50 are in the database! :p )

Jay I'm glad you shared your thoughts. I've been around for a while and I think Epinions is a wonderful site. However, I agree finding things can be difficult with the search engine. I'm suspecting that the increase in writers and traffic could be one of the problems. Once I searched for a product for 3 days, and eventually made a request to have it added to the site. A friendly and kind Category Lead emailed the URL and found it for me. Although I felt like there was a glowing "L" on my forehead, I humbly submitted my review and thanked the extremely helpful Category Lead. Sometimes I use other search engines to find the URL at Epinions which has helped me locate certain URL's.
P.S.
Hang in there, things are constantly improving at the site.
