My Thoughts On Hip-Hop At This Time. Pt. II

The Bottom Line Hip-Hop is not over. But the Bridge is.

Hip Hop is at a turning point in it's history right now. With MTV and radio stations turning more and more to hip-hop to secure advertising dollars it is now that loyal listeners of hip-hop music need to step forward and support what we believe in as a culture. We need to look out at the J-Kwon's, Chingy's, and Lil' John's and tell the industry that these people do not represent us. With the recent success of Kanye West's album both critically and commercially the time for a new breed of artist is here. Not the new breed that 50 Cent speaks of. The new breed should be from the underground. This is where the lines between white and black become fuzzy and the terms bling, dubs, and gangster are the rarity not the norm. Please feel free to embrace this culture and all that it represents.

Those artists and labels that continue to push garbage on both us and our youth will eventually disappear as a rush of knowledge and insight overwhelm them. Soon there will be radio stations popping up all across the country that give spins to quality underground and mainstream artists. When this time comes make sure you support these stations and these artists. It is time for a change.

Can I just say how dissapointed I am in the fact that Def Jam has pushed back Ghostface Killah's album again. Pretty Toney will hopefully be released in late April although I'm sure that date is subject to change as Def Jam will continue to attempt to promote and market an album that already is receiving a fair amount of buzz. Playboy gave this album a very favorable review in it's latest issue and most reports tend to agree with this view.

I know I will probably catch some heat for this but I do plan on purchasing the new N.E.R.D.. Mostly because it will be on sale but also because I'm interested in what this will sound like. I have been promised that this is going to be different than most music that is out right now. Hopefully I have not been lied to. Either way I will probably be dropping a review soon to let everyone know what I think.

Murs will also be coming out with a new album this week. It is titled Murs 3:16 The 9th Edition and features top to bottom production from 9th Wonder. This is going to be available in Best Buy so you should have no trouble picking up a copy. I have a real good feeling about this album so please listen to it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

And finally I am both amazed and happy that producer Danger Mouse has become a media darling. With his mixing of Jay-Z's Black Album and the Beatles White Album bringing down a ton of heat from the record companies for illegal sampling Danger Mouse has been all over the news. This has been great for business though since now he has become a household name without ever even having a gold record. By the way if you get a chance pick up his first full-length album with rapper Gemini titled Ghetto Pop Life it is pretty damn good.

Well that's it for now. I thank you all for reading and hope you were entertained. I'll try harder next time, I promise.
