Pros: Katherine Heigl of course.
Cons: The movie has a been there, done that feel.
The Bottom Line: Knocked Up was well worth the trip to the cheapie ($3.00 a ticket) movie theater to see Ms. Heigl at her big screen best.

| vemartin's Full Review: Knocked Up |
Okay Ill be honest, Ill come clean; Katherine Heigl was prime motivator in going to see Knocked Up (2006). Next to my wife she is probably one of the only women in America whom I would die for. Perhaps that is a (slight) exaggeration, but you get the picture, I have a serious case for the blonde with the million dollar smile, and serious curves. So I wanted to see the Greys Anatomy alum on the big screen, smile, curves and all.
Spun in the tradition of There is Something About Mary, Knocked Up, directed by the same man who brought us The 40-Year Old Virgin, Judd Apatow, who also wrote the script. Katherine Heigl (Roswell, 100 Girls) portrays Alison Scott an up-and-coming at the E! network. She has just been given a promotion, and goes out to celebrate with her older sister Debbie is portrayed by Leslie Mann (The 40 Year Old Virgin), who she also lives with.
While at a dance club the two meet Ben Stone portrayed by Canadian Seth Rogen (The 40 year Old Virgin, You, Me and Dupree, Undeclared), a not-too-attractive foul mouthed, unemployed pothead who buys Katherine and her sister a bear. The two strike up a conversation, get drunk, dance and then retire to Alisons guesthouse to hook up without advantage of protection. The rest of the movie follows the not so happy couple through predictable ups and down culminating in an unforgettable, but also predictable end.
My Thoughts
Knocked Up is a mild comedic movie that made me laugh all too infrequently. The movie is really a Dramatic/Comedy, and as such it plays well enough with just enough frames of Ms, Heigl to keep on happy. But the gags have been done and done again, and so lose their punch in this translation. The profanity was a bit excessive, and the tenor of the movie defiantly adult, so leave the kiddies at home. The move lost so its punch when Alison never shed her bra during sex; certainly not with the realm of the real world.
All the actors turned in fine performances with Katherine and Seth hogged most of the screen time. The two had a positive chemistry and I found myself rooting for their relation by the end of the movie. Knocked Ups big surprise comes at the end and involves the birth of a baby the natural way, and that is all I will say.
Leave aside the crude formula and bathroom humor and Knocked Up turns into a surprisingly insightful social commentary on the often strained relations between men and women in love and lust. When all is said and done and the credits rolled, Knocked Up was well worth the trip to the cheapie ($3.00 a ticket) movie theater to see Ms. Heigl at her big screen best.
