April is National Poetry Month and one of our own – LoisLane05 (Jennifer) – has come up with a most brilliant idea… to have fun with words! We are to wrack our minds and come up with a "Found Poem". The complete rules can be found here: http://www.epinions.com/content_3814039684.
What we need to do is find our favorite book of poetry, short stories – any book with an index / table of contents will do. But it’s not just limited to books… Jennifer says that "you can also choose titles from the personal ads in the paper, songs of the back of a CD's jewel case, your own grocery list, brochures floating around your house, or any kind of directions." Choose from the titles and words to come up with a unique poem of your own; you may also add your own words to put that very personal touch to it.
The beauty of it is, is that there are no "real" rules. Jot down whatever’s on your mind at the time. Jennifer says that Found Poems are mainly lighthearted and meant to be fun and give us a chuckle… so have fun! My inspiration for my Found Poem comes from a CD entitled "Pure Imagination" by singer/songwriter Michael Feinstein. It goes a little sumpin’ like this………………
Imagination
By Sunni Hart (that’s me)
"Pure Imagination!" is what they told me…
"That Sunni thinks she’s Swinging On A Star!
Hmmph!, thought I…
Good thing I Like Old People!
(oh my, did I say that outloud?)
It’s just Because We’re Kids that
They like to burst our bubble!
Just for once, I’d like someone to say
"Aren’t You Glad You’re You?"
So just for that, I won’t take you to
The Teddy Bear’s Picnic
With Ferdinand The Bull!
(He’s Not Much Of A Dog, that’s for sure)
And I won’t take you to
The Ugly Bug Ball
‘Cuz I don’t know The Jitterbug dance! (boo hoo!!!)
But I will take you to meet The Mole People
‘Cuz they live in a hole, people...
And it’s Ten Feet Off The Ground!
My bestest friends in the whole wide world are
Johnny Fedora And Alice Blue Bonnet
And they sang me the Unbirthday Song
I guess it was on account that I was nekkid
That they then sang me The Dressing Song.
(I thought I was supposed to wear my Birthday Suit?!?!)
They said, "Blow out your six candles, Sunni,
‘Cuz When You Wish Upon A Star
All of your dreams will come true."
(No! {stompin’ foot} I can’t tell you what my wish was!)
Well, I’ll stop here ‘cuz I’m Late,
But just a few words of advice….
1. Never lose your Imagination…
B. May there always be Angels On Your Pillow…
3 1/2. Be Kind To Your Parents….
‘Cuz ya never know when Lydia, The Tattooed Lady,
Will swoop down and carry you off to the Prince
Where we’ll all live
