Great village hotel

Pros:The Price is Right
Cons:They charge for all phone calls.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend the Larchmont for any travelers on a tight budget who still want to stay in a decent hotel and nice area.

I stayed at the Larchmont in April when I went to NY to tour colleges. I was definitely on a budget and therefore was pleased at the $80 a night price tag ($95 on the weekends). Once I saw the place I was happy with the service I got for the money.

The room was small but it was okay for a week. I had a twin size bed, a desk and a nightstand with a TV on it. The reception didn't come in very well on the TV though. There is also a sink and medicine cabinet in the room. The bathroom is shared among the 8 rooms on your hall. I was nervous about sharing because being from Texas I had never heard of such a thing. However I had nothing to worry about. The bathrooms were cleaned twice a day and I never had to wait. There are some rooms with private baths.

The room was also very clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a window AC unit that worked very well. They have a robe and slippers for use during your stay. Another nice thing is that they had a small communal kitchen that I left milk in for the week. They didn't really have a cafe, although they do have a small area downstairs where they serve free pastries to guests in the morning.

The location of the hotel is nice.It is on 11th which was actually a quiet street. There is a parking garage not far if you have a car. Also, there is a bagel shop around the corner as well as a cute 24 hour cafe and a Barnes and Noble.

The Union Square and West 4th stops are close enough by. The only real complaint I had was that all outgoing calls were charged. Even local and 1-800 number calls. However I hear that this practice is not out of the ordinary.

I recommend this hotel to budget minded travelers. Especially students or people visiting NYU seeing as it is close by.
