Pros: Transformers, noun, definition: Greatest Summer Movie
Action, adventure, suspense, blowing stuff up
Cons: To few Transformers in the movie, only 2 and a half hours.
The Bottom Line: All the cool kids are doing it. You'll feel left out when everyone else is talking about Transformers. You'll be a pariah, and you will be rightfully mocked

| mattjoe's Full Review: Transformers |
Transformers is a must see. You need not read any further, get your money, get out to your car, and go drive to the theater and see it. Do not sit at your computer downloading some pirated version, go to the theater now.
If you're still here you obviously don't follow directions well, or maybe you've lost your license and can't drive. If so, shame on you. If you just can't afford movies these days, put yourself on the corner and do what you have to for $10 so you can go to Transformers.
Transformers is almost nonstop action and suspense leading up to more action. This movie will appeal to fans of action movies, and anyone who ever owned a Transformer or had to fight crowds to go buy them for their spoiled kids at home (Thanks Mom and Dad!).
Transformers is the story of the Decepticons and Autobots, both of which have landed on the Earth in search of an item which can be used for good or evil. One person has the clue as to this items whereabouts, a clue he's trying to sell on Ebay, and must be protected much like Kyle Reese has to protect Sarah Conner in The Terminator. This individual is a teenage boy, Sam, (played by Shia LaBeouf) who has his moments of nervousness and uncertainty around a particular girl, who obviously he's supposed to end up with in the movie. The whole interaction between the two of them adds much humor to this movie, and playing no small part in the funniness is the interaction he has with his mother who asks him some highly embarrassing questions not knowing she's around.
Our hero is protected by his first car, a Camaro we find out is the Autobot Bumblebee. It seems to me that a different Autobot should have been chosen to be his first car, as Bumblebee was actually an old VW Bug when he was actually a Hasbro Transformer. I think the makers of this movie put a little homage to the original Bumblebee by placing the old Camaro next to the 71 VW Beetle in the used car dealer lot. Bumblebee has Sam thinking its possessed for a while, he even calls it Satan's Camaro, but what Bumblebee does is very funny when he's trying to help him out. If you have a Camaro, you're going to have to have it go up against a Mustang at some point, and here we are introduced to the black Mustang Decepticon police car, (look for the saying on the side of the car) which does battle with Bumblebee in a great race/chase scene, followed by the battle between them in robot form, and a later appearance by the new Chevrolet Camaro, which if it hits dealerships soon, is going to be a huge seller.
Eventually Optimus Prime (who has some stupid flames on his truck that weren't there on the toy!) and a handful of other Autobots show up to help save the Earth and the humans from the plans of Megatron and the other Decepticons, all the while having to stay true to their do not harm the humans, protect them, way of life from the original cartoon.
This movie has tons of action and special effects that were pretty much unimaginable back when these toys originally came out. Robots turning into cars, trucks, tanks, planes, helicopters, whatever. It's great, and sure ought to win editing/special effects awards when it's time for the Academy Awards.
But what about plot and character development?
If you need plot and character development in your movies, you don't have enough plots and characters in your own life. Transformers is action driven, not dialogue, not character development, not plot. Your plot is simple, bad guys are here, they will destroy civilization if they get their way. Good guys are here to stop that, and everything will work out in the end.
The Transformers are here to protect us, and entertain us in the theater, not make us think.
Character development, we see Sam transform from an awkward unsure, girlfriendless teenager to a confident teenager who gets the girl in the end. The moral of the story here is, buy a new Camaro, you'll get confidence, you'll get the girl, I think. Or maybe it had something to do with playing a part in saving the world. Maybe girls like that, I don't know, I have no plans to save the world.
The Transformers are good or bad, they don't need much character development, but they do have funny personalities, having learned how to communicate with humans by surfing the world wide web.
Other than that, you've got your special ops soldiers who survive the initial Decepticon attack, you've got the secret government team who know about the existence of a certain Transformer, and you've got the Secretary of Defense, an analyst and her friend, played by a hilarious Anthony Anderson, who's best scene has to do with donuts, and he's sadly under used.
Also under used were Autobots. There were far to few of them. GM's Transform Your Ride promotion must have pretty much cornered the market on the vehicles used for Autobots. They must have paid a hefty ransom to get this privilege, but sadly, they don't feature enough cars that would make us want to go out and buy Autobot stickers and proudly slap them on our cars. They also border on ridiculous when the Autobot Jazz comes to Earth and chooses to become the Pontiac Solstice when he lands in front of the Cadillac Hummer dealership. Honestly, he chooses a Pontiac over the Cadillac XLR sitting right beside it in the showroom? That robot was poorly programmed.
So, is this Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay's greatest movie ever?
I say yes.
Transformers should break Titanic's record for money brought in by a movie, and it's a far better movie than Titanic (even though Titanic had a boob shot in it). Which is why you need to get off your computer, and go pay to see Transformers now. Sink Titanic with Transformers, and love every 2 hours and 30 something minutes of it.
