Bang For The Buck
Pros:good story line, haunting, and super natural but not believable
Cons:poor all around, don't even know how to explain it
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't waste your money to go to the theater. It was okay but certainly not outstanding
1408 is based on a short story but the horror novelist Stephen King.
Mike Enslin, played by John Cusack, a paranormal, ghost, haunted places writer, is searching for a new adventure. He doesn't believe in what he researches, which is probably why he's not a very good writer. Checking his mail one day Mike finds an anonymous post card from The Dolphin Hotel in New York. The postcard simply stated Do Not Stay in Room 1408. Of course this would make anyone curious. He did his research and heads for the hotel, getting some help getting a room at the hotel specifically asking from room 1408. After doing some legal research to get the room after it was denied to him, he heads out to the Dolphin Hotel.
After doing some pursuing with the hotel manager, a few bribes and a bottle of liquor, Mike heads up to his room, 1408.
Mike checks out the room, soon realizing that it looks just like any other room. After several minutes things soon start to change. Weird things start to happen, clock alarm radio starts on its on, visions and windows and such.
This movie was nothing what I expected. High expectations from a movie that comes from a Steven King book. I thought it was just average. If I would even consider it average. I just didn't get it. Didn't find myself drawn into the movie at all. There didn't seem to be much of a story line. Or a very small story line. I would have liked to know more history of the room and maybe why they thought it was originally haunted. Why did they keep the hotel open or that floor if the room was so deadly? Is the room really haunted or is it because the people are hallucinating from the drink that was given?
Nothing spectacular. Several scenes make you think but then it all turns around you you're just like that's it. Just didnt hit it for me. The movie's ending was creepy, when the little girl was heard on the tape recorder. At least the wife knows that something did go on, and her husband isn't completely crazy.
