The Bottom Line This is my first try at anything creative in the writer's corner. Thanks for the opportunity.

Sunni very kindly allowed me to use her introduction paragraphs. I asked because she covered it so well. After the intro is my pathetic little first try.

April is National Poetry Month and one of our own – LoisLane05 (Jennifer) – has come up with a most brilliant idea… to have fun with words! We are to wrack our minds and come up with a "Found Poem". The complete rules can be found here: http://www.epinions.com/content_3814039684.

What we need to do is find our favorite book of poetry, short stories – any book with an index / table of contents will do. But it’s not just limited to books… Jennifer says that "you can also choose titles from the personal ads in the paper, songs of the back of a CD's jewel case, your own grocery list, brochures floating around your house, or any kind of directions." Choose from the titles and words to come up with a unique poem of your own; you may also add your own words to put that very personal touch to it.

The beauty of it is, is that there are no "real" rules. Jot down whatever’s on your mind at the time. Jennifer says that Found Poems are mainly lighthearted and meant to be fun and give us a chuckle… so have fun! Tell your Epinions friends about this fun challenge… go to the Epinion’s Writer’s Corner under "Humour Poetry" to find more Found Poems, or go to LoisLane05’s profile page http://www.epinions.com/content_3814039684 for a list of entrants.

The Write-Off ends April 30, 2004 – so get busy! :-)

Inspiration for my poem came from “Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul”

On Love (chapter 1 Contents)

List of words taken... and now in my "found poem"

Delayed Delivery
Frisk
Becky and the Wolf
Friends
The Puppy Express
When Snowball Melted
An Experiment in Love
Heartstrings
A Different Kind of Angel
Home
Innocent Homeless
Priorities
Pepper’s Place
Sparkle the Wonder Dog
Pet Love
Little Lost Dog

The package I was told was coming that day
The Piper said softly who among you will pay
I asked of the sweet voice, quite sincerely
No matter now, it was a Delayed Delivery

The knock at the door came all too soon
I peeped through the window that afternoon
I opened the door to find not the mail
When he began to Frisk, who said Jail

Becky and the Wolf in unease, I called upon
Please come to my aid, Friends, I’m no con
Well, Becky came quickly, my friend to the end
She brought The Puppy Express round the bend

Becky said, “Officer, you’ve made a terrible mistake”
My friend would do no wrong, for goodness sake
Before she did wrong, Hell would have to freeze over,
And When Snowball Melted on the Cliffs of Dover

The officer stepped back and looked hard at me
“No criminal resides at this place, I can see”
It’s just the face of greed and apathy I see
Hope comes unnoticed, once found is key

I opened the package, with anticipation
And lo, in the box a string and carnation
What’s this, said I, then looked at the card
It’s An Experiment in Love said the bard

What does he mean, I whispered 'neath my breath
What’s with the string resting softly inside and beneath
The card went on , these are my Heartstrings
To you they belong, for you my heart sings

Is this for real, asked I, while wrinkling my nose
I thought those who loved you gave you a rose
A Different Kind of Angel, would accept with grace
I’m taking my posey and string and going to my place

As the cloudy day ended, Home my destination
Not in time, I missed my bus, no transportation
Along the way I saw the Innocent Homeless, pity
What could I do in this overpopulated, uncaring, cold city

Priorities change as you pass through each age
Once I knew not the lost and homeless; now playing on stage
A meal, a bed, to be warm, their needs modest, a smiling face
A hot plate of food, the salt alongside Pepper’s Place

Today, what have I learned, not to brush off love’s gift
To count on my friends when the world seems adrift
The Puppy Express lost Sparkle the Wonder Dog
In lieu of human kindness, I opt for Pet Love, not frog

Little Lost Dog, where do you sleep
Under the bridge, in a box, with other peep
God Bless you tonight as you make up your bed
May the morning bring coffee and a loaf of fresh bread.
