Easter: The most important Christian holiday

The Bottom Line Most believers in Christianity have to get their faith based priorities back in balance.

First off, to all the Christians here, I would like to wish to you all a very Happy Easter. Easter is the holiest of all the holy days in all of Christianity, and much love and devotion to God and Jesus is given for the sacrifice and the rising of the life of Jesus.

Although I no longer consider myself a Christian (I'm now an agnostic) I show my love and support to all those who believe and wish the best for them on their holy days. In fact, I do this for all of my friends, regardless of religion.

Ever since I was a kid, I always looked forward to Christmas. The gifts, the shows, the spectacle. I was brought up in a Catholic family, and when I was young I did know what Christmas was really celebrated for, but that wasn't my primary concern. I just wanted toys. I just wanted my family to seemingly do everything possible to make me happy.

Easter was quite another matter. I never quite got the whole idea behind what was celebrated, and all I really knew was that in the morning when I woke up I had to find my basket with all that candy in it.

As i grew older, and started to more fully understand the beliefs that I was brought into by birth, I realized that all that I had reveled in was nothing but a mere puppets show, all dressed up fancy, and in actuality, detracting from the entire purpose of having the holiday to begin with.

I soon refused to accept gifts that were given to me that were given as either Christmas or Easter gifts. Sure, my family still gave me gifts on these days, as I gave to them, but I gave and accepted only on the basis that they were given and received solely upon our mutual love and caring for each other, and not for the holiday being celebrated.

This was also a time when I was curious as to why most Christians fussed so much over Christmas, and almost seemed unaffected by Easter. I was fully aware that celebrating the birth of Jesus was important, and I still believe that his existence on the planet was a blessing upon mankind, but to me, I felt that Easter was the more important of the two in matters of faith.

Sure, some may argue that if Jesus was never born, that the events that took place between Passover and Easter day would have never come to be. There is a lot of validity in this belief, and I can see why many feel more compelled to celebrate the birth.

But faith in Christianity is based upon the belief that Jesus was born and sent to eventually sacrifice his life to atone for the sins of mankind. This occurrence is exactly what Easter is a celebration of. Therefore, one can easily conclude that if there's no Easter, there's no Christianity. Also, if there wasn't Christianity, I don't think so many people would celebrate Jesus's birth.

So in conclusion, Christmas is important certainly. The birthdays of everybody is a special occasion. But just ask yourself one thing today, as you celebrate Easter with your families. Which is more important - The birth of a person, or the birth of a religion caused by the birth of that person?

Peace, Love and respect to all, and once more,

Happy Easter!
