| bigtrouble54's Full Review: Quality |
After a very long and tiring trip from New Jersey to Texas, our weary cars, and weary bodies were ready to stop moving when we drove in to Abilene.
We arrived here on Friday night at around 7:00 P.M. and the town looked like a ghost town. We tried to get lodging on base, but for some reason, all the rooms were full, therefore, we had to seek lodging elsewhere.
Being Friday night, my daughter's sponsor was not available, so we went looking for lodging on our own. We spotted the Quality Inn in downtown Abilene and decided to look no further...we were tired and ready to go to bed!
When we went to the front desk, we were greeted by a very friendly desk clerk who tried her very best to give us what we asked for.
My daughter and I are both smokers (I know...shame on us) so we asked for a smoking room since we knew we would be there for at least a week. They gave us what we asked for...however, the only smoking rooms available were marked as "Handicapped"...what do you think they were trying to tell us?
We drove around to our room that was on the ground floor since we had a 3 year old with us. They knew we would be there awhile and said they thought this room would suit us best and not bother anyone else with the noise of a little noisy kid.
When we got out of our cars, ready for a nice hot bath, a smoke, and a nice cold drink, we were greeted at the door by the biggest bunch of crickets I ever saw in my life! They were everywhere!!!
I thought it was bad outside until we opened the door...there were more inside than outside...I think the inside crickets had started the party just waiting for someone to open the door and let in their guests!!!
The room was very nice and quite clean considering...but there were all these noisy and quite annoying crickets everywhere! They were on the walls, and inside all the air vents too!!
The next morning, after fighting off all the bugs in the night, we went on base at Dyess, where we bought a can of bug spray. When we got back to the room, I emptied half the can, spraying around the door so the bugs would go away!
At about the same time I was spraying, the cleaning ladies were making their rounds..they looked at me like I was crazy for spraying bug spray everywhere. They asked us if we needed anything and went on about their business when I said, "no, I got it under control".
We were there for a week and I found everything to be very nice. The room had a 27 inch tv, complete with HBO, 2 double beds, a refrigerator, microwave, and a coffeemaker. If it hadn't been for the fact that it was only a hotel room, I would have thought it was better than home! The staff sure made us feel like we were at home!
All in all, I would recommend this hotel chain for everyone! It just so happens that we got here at a time when Abilene is in the middle of a drought and it seems that the crickets were only one of the plagues that we will endure during our stay here!
Thanks for reading, and God Bless...wish me luck in our new home!
