My experience has been all together different than most reviews posted here! I am so glad I didn't think to read these reviews before I ordered! My parent's have a house full of S&N products from 10 or 12 years ago so I have known of the company for a while. When my husband and I began a major home renovation I was sure to get on their mailing list and had months to look over their (really nicely put together) catalogs and make a final decision.
I first ordered samples swatches for honeycomb blinds. They were quickly delivered and a great help. My husband was not so keen on honeycombs so we went back to the drawing board and decided on the wood plantation shutters.
After shopping around at Big Box home improvement stores I was disappointed with the quality of the "wood" shutters they offered and felt more comfortable ordering from a specific window treatment company like S&N. Our experiences with both Lowe's and Home Depot during this home renovation of ours left me wary of giving them any more of my money but that's a whole different review!
The order we placed was for 7 windows so it was nearly $2000.00 We ordered the bright white 3.5 inch plantation shutters for on-trim mounting. I was a bit disappointed that the delivery was estimated at 6 weeks but hey they make them to order--what can you do? There is no way to track your order once it's placed. You can enter your customer/order number but unless your order has shipped it won't give you any information. That's a bummer when you are desperate to get your windows covered and feel sorry for what your neighbors may be seeing!
The order was placed on May 27 and received July 3rd. So 5 weeks or so.
The shutters were nicely packaged and it looked like UPS had taken good care of them too. It was a little overwhelming to begin installation. They were not package/assembled as we expected. The shutters were in separate boxes from the frames so assembly was required. My blood pressure was on the rise thinking that these shutters were going to be a real bear for my husband to install and thinking that we paid so much and waited so long and dear God I hope they all fit...my mind was racing! Thank goodness my husband remained calm, read through the directions and then he just had to dive in with window number 1. It took him a good 30 minutes and he grumbled a little here and there. He was satisfied with the hardware and the directions for the most part--he can be a big perfectionist when it comes to hardware! Once window #1 was done we both breathed a HUGE sigh of relief. It looked awesome and was not really all that difficult to assemble/install. He is somewhat handy though--I could have NEVER figured it out. So onto the rest of the windows and they took about 15 minutes each.
I am in love with these shutters! They look rich and it makes my house seem so much more refined and finished! So glad I chose S&N and stayed away from the big box store shutters. The screws are all hidden so they just look nice and clean and gorgeous both from inside my house and from the street.
In the meantime of waiting for the shutters to be delivered I ordered some fabric swatches because we are considering blackout draperies for our bedroom. I made two separate orders for swatches and both orders arrived within a week. The fabric swatches are 4"x6" or so in size and it's so nice to be able to see the colors and feel the texture of the fabric. I emailed S&N to ask a question about hardware and received a reply email the following business day. For the most part my questions were answered well enough. With their no-change no-return policy I want to make absolutely sure I am getting what I think I am getting! Have not ordered the drapes yet but it's on our (quite long) list. I fully intend to order from S&N and will keep my fingers crossed that I continue to be impressed by them.
