Pros:great appearance, large natural cork surface area, easy to install
Cons:cork shows push pin and thumbtack holes
The Bottom Line: An affordable cork bulletin board that does the job.

The office needed a new message area, so we decided to buy the Universal Cork Bulletin Board in the 48” x 36” size.

Description

This bulletin board arrived in a large slim cardboard box. As mentioned above, the overall size is 48” x 36”. The cork area is framed with a piece of 1/2” satin-finished aluminum. This aluminum frame is mitered at all four corners. The entire board is flat, similar to a picture in a frame.

The natural cork in this board is laminated to fiberboard for durability. The aluminum frame also wraps around to the back for stability.

Assembly

This cork bulletin board was simple to install. The board came with the metal mounting materials, and it can be hung either vertically or horizontally. We decided to hang the board in the horizontal position. The hardest part of installation is to make sure the board is level as it is being screwed into the wall.

Our Experiences

This is a large bulletin board. Make sure to measure the space where it will hang to make sure there is plenty of room. We did not measure, and the board (thankfully) fits into the allocated space.

The aluminum frame around this bulletin board gives it a contemporary appearance. It is enough to frame the board, lending the sides stability, without overpowering the bulletin board. I like the mitered corners for a neat edging finish. It’s a good frame.

As you can imagine, the cork surface of the bulletin board dominates the wall. There is plenty of room on this board to hang both large and small papers. So far this board has never been completely filled. The types of papers on this board include computer printouts, letter- and legal-size paper notices, and certificates.

We use push pins on this board so that the pin heads are easy to grab. (Thumbtacks when pushed into the board lay flush against the board and are more difficult to remove.) The sharp end of the push pins do leave holes in the cork. So far this hasn’t caused a problem.

Likes

* Large natural cork surface
* Decorative aluminum frame
* Easy to hang
* Comes with mounting hardware
* Simple to use

Dislikes

I’ve yet to use a cork bulletin board that didn’t leave holes from push pins or thumbtacks. This board will show the holes left by sharp objects such as pushpins. It would be great if this board featured a self-healing cork surface; however, those boards cost a lot more than this one did.

Purchasing

We paid $36.95 for this cork bulletin board from W.B. Mason. They normally sell it for $49.95.

Summary

This Universal Cork Bulletin Board has proved a good purchase. The large size accommodates bigger pieces of paper, which is a great convenience. There is plenty of surface area to post notices and other important information.

I hope you found this review useful.

Enjoy the day,
