The Bottom Line Read On..

Bdog08's Hip Hop Mix

I will attempt to pick my favorite ten rap songs at the moment. Their are so many good songs but I will narrow it down to the ten best. To make a classic song, the song must consist of amazing production and great lyrical content. Those 2 are the obvious things required, but the last one is most important of all, lasting ability. If you can listen to the same song for 10 years and like it as much as the beginning, you know you have a True classic. Try to take all this into consideration while reading this shuffle list.

Top 10 songs at the moment:

Killah Priest
B.I.B.L.E
Liquid Swords/ Heavy Mental

-Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth-
From the legendary liquid swords we get the best track off the album. GZA is not even on this track as killah priest takes over. Featuring a soft, mysterious beat we get an introspective track full of pure lyrical content. Both of his verses are perfect and fit in together. The sound of a little child in the background adds to this heartfelt track. This track is one of my favorite tracks because we a very introspective look at religion and is a very personal track from Priest. The genius delivers here with a flawless masterpiece by handing off the mic off to Killah Priest

Wu Tang Clan
Triumph
Wu Tang Clan forever

The legendary track from the unpopular but still classic Forever double disk album. On this album RZA brings aus a powerful catchy beat which speeds up with the lyrics making very dramatic for all the Wu Members to spit some amazing rhymes. ODB does the intro and then the song starts with Decks classic verse. Each member is able to shine as they all bring their A game giving us a lyrical fans paradise. This is a battle track but the way the WU pulls it off makes it great. Lasting just under 5 minutes this will always be my favorite Wu track because we get to see them all shine on one track!

Ras Kass
Interview with a Vampire
The End: Rassasination

Yes... I prefer this to nature of the threat because of the much stronger production. In this track Ras Kass plays 3 characters, himself, God and Satan. They discuss everything from the point of existence to all the problems in the world. Every time I listen to this song I find out something new that I didn’t hear before. There is so much to hear here, that you will need to pay a lot of attention and repeat it often to understand it all. The production is amazing; it is very dark and fits this track perfectly. It’s very similar to Makaveli’s Hail Mary’s production but toned down. Ras Kass’ voice changes with each character and it adds a great touch to it all. This song is Ras Kass greatest accomplishment off a horrible album.

Nas
Memory Lane
Illmatic

This could be my favorite Nas song. Off the classic Illmatic, you know what to expect. It features a very addicting soul sound similar to other songs on Illmatic. The humming and piano loop adds to the production. (Tracks like this make me wonder how everyone can like horrible mainstream beats) This is also one of his greatest lyrical performances in his career. He uses strong metaphors, similes and is never short of clever lines. This song goes out to his deceased crew in memory lane, and he speaks of all the troubles in the streets. This track is perfect and very smooth. There is no deep baseline, commercialized lyrics or DJ Shout outs, and just a pure hip-hop track by nasty Nas.

2pac
Dear Mama
Me against the World

One of the most emotional song ever recorder! This song is dedicated to 2pac mother and all mothers. This song features soft production that is very simple, allowing the attention to be on 2pac’s lyrics in this heartfelt ballad. The hook has some soft singing in the background while 2pac repeats Dear Mama. 2pac puts his soul into this track, as he speaks to his mom about how much he cares for here and he understands her love for him. He also explains that it's hard for a woman to raise a man. This is the other side of 2pac not seen by the media. All his lyrics are very touching and his voice is full with so much sorrow. This is a classical 2pac track, and one of my personal favorite songs ever made

Common
6th Sense
Like water for Chocolate

This song beats I Used to love Her out for his best song. When Primo meets up with the great Common, what do you get? You get a pure classic song that will put all others to shame. DJ Premier proves why he is the greatest producer with a great beat including his trademark scratching. The production is very simular to the legendary Nas is like. But what would the song be without Common’s intelligent lyrics? He speaks about rap and how much it influences him and many others. He even mentions how he raps to save all the children and will not sell out for money. He touches on many topics surrounding rap and general society. His flow is perfect and delivers one of the best lyrical performances of his career.

Talib Kweli
Good Mourning
Reflection Eternal

Hi Teck provides a very simple but smooth beat to fit in the background of this heartful track. It is very basic so it lets you really listen to these amazing lyrics. Here Talib kweli spits pure majic as he reflects on life and death with great lyrics such as "Your only afraid to die if you aint living right" or "If medicine is big business, my remedy is herbal, we power to the people so were reflection eternal." Each line is quotable but words cant describe how great Talib is on this song. You have to buy that album and listen to this track. Talib shows us his best effort of the legendary train of thought album with his best track of his career. Listen to this if you think his best album was Quality which was very good but cant compete with Reflection Eternal and Good Mourning.

Mobb Deep
Shook Ones part 2
The infamous

This is the legendary Mobb Deep classic from their sophomore album The infamous. Prodigy and Havoc rip this track apart with dark, intelligent street lyrics. They even show introspective as they explain that this is not the way they want to live their life but is the only way to survive. Prodigy begins the song with some of his best lyrics ever as he describes his life through the ghetto. These lyrics explain the darkest moments of their life, but the pure detail involved can make you shiver. Mobb Deep does not resort to Gangster lyricism as many other rappers have in the past. Havoc drops a verse that may even be superior to Prodigy's. He speaks about the fear of burning in hell for all the horrible things he has done, but he can’t reflect on this if he wants to survive the next day. This track features Havoc traditional dark production with a piano loop that will draw fear into your eyes. Im sure you have heard the production as it's been sampled many times. This production is perfect and fits well with their street poetry.

Cormega
The Saga
The Realness

This song is from the classic The Realness. It is a very introspective look at life in Queensbridge. It starts off with an intro with Cormega explaining that life is an interlude to death. Then Mega begins the first verse. He discuss' how everyone wants to survive in the hood and that they do what they do to survive. He also questions his faith and the way the society is. These verses would make Chuck D proud. The chorus is perfect and adds much more to the song. The production is very soft with a simple piano loop but it fits perfectly. This track is full of socially conscious rhymes and he even uses some clever similes at the end of the track. This is by far my favorite Cormega track.

Moment of Truth
Gang Starr
Moment of truth

Gang Starr has always been a under rated group. Many peoplep say that Guru can only spit battle lyrics; this track will certainly shut them up. Guru gives us some of the most introspective lines ever recited. He speaks about life and how people should act more intelligent and not make stupid decisions such as senseless violence. He uses a mix of battle raps with introspective lyrics about all the struggles in life. Guru says that everyone will find their moment of truth in life. This is proof that Guru is one of the most under rated rappers out there. Primo drops some wonderful production with a mix of instruments that blend together to form a perfect backdrop to rap on. This proves DJ Premier is capable of making art that can’t be described in words. This is a perfect track that most of you have never heard but should listen to it as soon as possible.

Hope you enjoyed the list.

Ciao
