Pros:price, breakfast was good
Cons:its a chain hotel, you get what you pay for..............
The Bottom Line: The Baymont in Montgomery Alabama was an average hotel with a great free breakfast but bad service. Would not be my first choice next time.
We visited the Baymont Inn in Montgomery Alabama in August. We were in that town for a wedding and needed to feel safe and not pay a fortune. Baymont Inn gave us 3 rooms for $59.00 a night. The taxes and fees were not as high as other states I have been in but they still get you! The hotel was located in the same vacinity as 3 other hotels and was very close to a Cracker Barrel.
Upon arrival, we entered a very small lobby with no one at the desk. The man sitting in the chair watching the TV looked up and look at us like how dare we get there an hour before check in. We arrived at 2pm and hoped that our room would be ready even though they said the room would be available at 3pm. Our rooms were ready and the man at the desk would not get the employee or the year award plus he didn't even have his name tag on if I wanted to write to the management about him. We received our keys and went to our rooms. He never told us where to park or what time breakfast would be the next morning. I guess you get what you pay for.
Our room was an average room. Clean, equipped with iron, ironing board, hair dryer, 2 double beds, a coffee maker, desk and a remote controlled TV. There were plenty of towels. There was an ice bucket and 4 paper cups. Again, you get what you pay for. There was a sign that said if you forgot something, go to the front desk and ask. (The one time I went and ask, the gentleman was very nice and had a name tag on with the word "Manager" on it.) Don't expect to take home lots of bottles of "extra" There was a small bar of soap and a bottle of shamphoo only. Nothing else.
The TV had basic channels with a few extras but not many choices for family TV. We never used the phone so I cannot tell you how the phone service was. Cell Phones are so cheap now days!
At this hotel, there was a main door and all the room doors were inside. I prefer this and feel safer. There were two other doors at each end of the hotel and you had to have a room key to enter. There was a pool located at the end of the hotel but you had to go through a parking lot to get to it. The pool looked clean and the tables and chairs around it looked new.
The one thing that I did enjoy at this hotel was the free breakfast. There was great variety and plenty of it. There was cereals, fruit, pastries, bagels, muffins, waffles, french toast and more. You had to heat it up in a toaster yourself but there was plenty of toasters with large slots to hold even bagels. There was lady that cleaned as soon as you made a mess. There was two juices and plenty of coffee. They also had syrups, cream cheese, butter, peanut butter and different types of sweetners. Both mornings I felt like my family got plenty to eat.
Now each hotel is different and I think service is a HUGE part of your stay. Noisy fans, stopped up sinks are part of it but how the people act and how fast they react tell a lot about a company. I don't think this company puts enough time in training their employees that the customers are important and need to be treated special even though they aren't paying $100/night. So I can't give this hotel a high rating even though the location and price was decent. Next time I go to this town, I will probably try another hotel.
