Pros:Good low level detail, and history
Cons:Supplied code was not easy to use or too helpful.
The Bottom Line: Gives a good big picture, and concept view, but lacks on the practical application side
I read this book for work, and I think that for being one of the first book fully devoted to rmi, that it is a pretty good start. It gives a good overview, and histroy for rmi, jini, ejb, things of that nature. It provides a good understanding of concepts, but I felt it lacked some of the more practical knowledge. The book tried to get into those details, but for me it got bogged down. Lack of code support was one of the main reasons I felt it failed on a practical coding level. The way the cd of source was setup was very annoying. The packages, and folders made it hard to navigate, and use. I always got compile errors. Books should supply scripts to run programs, if at all possible.
There are also enough grammatical type errors, that becomes really noticeable.
So if you want a good understanding of concepts, this is the book for you. If you want real working code examples and explanations, than I might say go with one of the newer books out.
