Pros: Easy Application/Financial Aid
Anyone Accepted
Cons: Self-Taught Coursework
Inaccessible Support Staff and Faculty
Misleading guidelines and regulations
The Bottom Line: Pursue this with caution if the funds are coming out of your pocket. This is not high quality education its just "good enough" education.

| djmandrews's Full Review: Capella University |
For those who read my review before my retraction, I'm afraid that the critics were more accurate than my hopeful opinion.
I had believed that academic freedom and the ability to be a student on one's own terms was what Capella offered for better or for worse. What I found was that my opinion was unwelcome. I was asked to step back and learn what Capella was really about. Short and sweet posts each week restating the question and managing to reference in the limited amount of 250 words.
Until starting to criticize my work my professor was very inactive in the courseroom. And she refused to contact me by email. After she had torn apart my work I didn't particularly wish to speak with her over the phone. I was told by my academic advisers that I was the one who had misunderstood and that they couldn't do anything until I had worked things out with this professor.
Finally, I was lied to by the academic advisers who told me I had until the end of the week to try to make it work in the courseroom and encouraged me to get back in after a week of inactivity. It is highly likely that this bout of activity after their advice has made me ineligible for any type of refund. I will be paying a tidy sum of 1600 + for my folly.
Please accept my humble apologies for my optimism regarding this school. My circumstances are not everyone's and I recognize that this school may hold more value for people who are employed full time and cannot devote the time and energy to a traditional education. It might be perfect if all you need is something you can do in the evenings at home and all you need is the letters at the end of your name for a promotion.
If you are at the start of your life or career, this is likely not the best option. There are better things out there, community college for one. For master's level work there are smaller schools. Being able to talk to and see your professor is worth more than I think I realized. This professor was clueless that I was a dedicated student.
Sorry for the rant but at this point I am severely disappointed and paying the price. I will be attending a brick and mortar graduate school (for theology) in the fall semester. Its professors are at least PH.D's from major universities like Yale and Princeton. :)
Blessings to all,
Debra
