Cheap, FAST, Compatible
Written: Aug 29 '01
Pros:Cheap, fast, Pocket PC OS, Not a Palm, and LONG BATTERY LIFE
Cons:somewhat dim monochrome display, no landscape option
The Bottom Line: When purchased for the right reason - to use for information storage and retrieval, it is perfect, cheap, and once again, not a Palm thank goodness.
I will keep my review short here because there isn't much to say. If you want a cheap, fast, Pocket PC based PDA then there isn't any other choice. Scratch that. There is NO choice if you want a cheap, fast PDA since the Palm units are exponentially slower and less multifunctional/multitasking.
It's Not Color - Duh! But do you know the advantages of the fact that it isn't color and why you might opt for it? Because the BATTERY LASTS MUCH LONGER!
Other than that - it is a full fledged Pocket PC with full Outlook, Excel, and Word integration and compatibility. Screen real estate aside, why wouldn't you want that - unless you harbor self-defeating, childish anti-Microsoft feelings and just can't take it. But frankly, all Palm users end up using software solutions that allow them to interface with MS programs in the end. I don't have any loyalty either way - but get with the program and do what's useful and seamless folks!
Oh, and the fact that this version is monochrome probably saves you from wasting a TON of time playing stupid games obsessively on your handheld. Sorry gadget addicts.
I don't know why you would buy a Palm, except for peer pressure - since they are all slower, less functional, less integrated with desktop apps and OS, and give you a smaller screen. Oh, except the over-priced Sony with its brilliant memory stick technology. I could show them where to stick it...
