The Bottom Line Have you ever seen the word schwannoma in a poem before? Well, now you have!
Letter to Consultant Orthopaedic Oncologist from GP
I would like to refer this delightful lady
Who goes by the name of Jane
She seems to have developed a lump on her thigh
Which is causing her some pain
I think this may be a ganglion of some sort
Not really my expertise
I would be appreciate your expert opinion
As soon as possible, please.
Letter to Jane from Orthopaedic Oncology Clinic
You have been referred to us by your GP
We received the letter today
So we would like you to come in and see us
On the twenty second of May
On arrival we will perform an X-ray
Of the inner part of your thigh
Please arrive by half past nine in the morning
Or your waiting time will be high
X-ray Report
There is a small lobulated lesion
On left thigh anterior aspect
It could very well be a schwannoma
Margins close, could be tough to resect
The differential diagnosis:
An intramuscular myxoma
Recommend doing trucut biopsy
As I have a sneaky misnomer…

The Radiologist’s guess was right
This lesion was certainly not benign
It’s a Synovial sarcoma
Surgical margins are right on the line
It’s not an easy operation
Although by no means the worst it could be
Someone’s got the job of telling her…
And I wish it didn’t have to be me
Letter from Jane to her Son
They thought it wasn’t dangerous
But they certainly seem to have changed their tune
They say that they can operate
And think that they can fit me in sometime soon
I’m worried, that I can’t disguise
There is a small chance of some complications
I try not to think about that
Because of the worrying implications
Outpatient Clinic Letter
Jane was reviewed in clinic
Three months following her sarcoma’s excision
She is making good progress
We see daily improvements in her condition
She has been mobilising
With the aid of local physiotherapy
Recurrence is unlikely
But we will see her on review regularly

I'll even get a prize! :-D I think I only won it for rhyming schwannoma with intramuscular myxoma! It's easily the most complex structure I've ever created for a poem too. (Hang on a minute - that sounds like hard work!! I must stop that at once...)
