| greenspan's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart p1000 Ink-jet Printer |
Hewlett Packard HP Photosmart 1000 For
PC or Mac is a great printer for anyone who
wants to take total advantage of their Digital
Camera. Originally on the market for $400
has now been dropped to the affordable price
of $190.00 due to HP releasing newer models.
Is the resolution any better in the higher
priced newer models? No.
So hurry out and take advantage of the lower
price of the HP1000. It can be located in most
Wal Mart stores and I bought mine at Office
Depot in order to guarantee getting a printer
that was not a floor model as they had
numerous printers on display at the time.
Depending on the store you might have to have
them price compare to get the low, low price that
Wal-Mart offers. I have also seen the Photosmart
1000 on sale at Office Max although when I did
see it you had to ask for price match which they
do offer. It doesn't hurt to ask for a deal no
matter where you shop or for whatever you are
shopping for as you might be surprised what kind
of deals you are passing up.

Hewlett Packard states that the HP1000 gives you:

What it doesn't tell you is how good the photo are!
Every claim that Hewlett Packard makes is
absolutely true. The colors are true and the software
allows you to manage your pictures easily. If you
are like me and own more than one type of digital
camera that have the different memory storage
cards you will be delighted at the ease of the
HP1000 as it accepts both the wafer diskette and the
memory cards which are the two types of storage
cards that most cameras utilize. This was the biggest
selling point of the printer for me, however I was
already impressed by the clear quality of the photos
being printed from the demo diskette. The original
price was more than I wanted to pay and I swore that
I would have one if the price went down to what I
thought was reasonable. The salesman asked me what
I called reasonable. I told him $200.00. He said that it
would someday drop to that, but that I would have to
just wait. Wait no more it became reasonable when the
newer models came out. The newer models do print
more pages per minute but as far as major advantages
I find that I have more time than money. The print
quality is no greater. While it does offer a 2 sided print
capability on the other model, the HP1000 also offer it
if you want to buy the optional dual side add on which
is easy to install and came be picked up on the internet
for around $60.00.
One of the nice features I liked about the HP1000 was
the software that came with the system on CD-ROM.
Once it is easily loaded, it permits you select from a
varied number of photo printout modes. You can print
an index page which allows you to print all the photos
on the memory card. This can be done without the use
of your computer. You can print from the printer after
selecting the image from your index page just printed or
you can save the photos into your computer. After the
images are entered into the computer you can use the
HP print software to select from the format and selection
of number of prints per page. You can print everything
from 8 x 10 to passport photos with the option of how
you want the photos printed out. You could easily print
out a complete photo package for your children's school
or sports club. If you combine the HP software with
other photo print packages you can print photo sports
cards that will look very professional.
This is the printer that I was waiting for and was hoping
that my other printer would go on the blink so I could
justify making the purchase. When my wife saw my
printout of a web page I created on my Canon printer she
said, "You need a new printer!" I asked," Why?" Her
reply, "That's not very pretty you need to get a printer
that will print in color" I agreed with her that I did need
a new printer and I knew a great color printer that even
printed the photos from my digital cams. What I didn't
tell her was that my Canon was printing black because
it only was loaded with a black ink cartridge only. But I
wanted the printer and she was right I needed it. I
deserved it. And I love it!
I guess I should mention the fact that the printer also
produces excellent reports when using it with my
Corel's WordPerfect. The printer has really neat
capability of setting the number of prints you would
like to have the printer churn out. I do enjoy the
envelopes that are printed out to give the appearance
of being professionally prepared. After all, it was printed
on a professional printer, I am a professional who
believes that image is everything, if you don't believe me
ask any professional photographer.

=========================================
You can wait till they don't have any more and then
have to buy the newer released printer at a higher
price, but as I see it if you are not pressed for time
why not opt for the same quality print out with a
little more wait. Over the years I find that I have a lot
more patience than do I have money. You can check
out the demo print jobs at most computer stores. You
will be impressed.
