The beauty of doing this with a macro is that Word is, for unknown reasons, unaware* that the text string you paste or type between the quote marks in <a href=""></a> is a URL, so it doesn't automatically convert it. It's a sneaky way to override that pesky automatic link conversion.

Be sure to turn off Word's "automatically create hyperlink" (or whatever it's called in your version of word). (Either that, or override the functionality to create the appropriate <a></a> entries, but that may be too difficult, even for mobiprof.)

A couple of caveats:
Make certain that you test each of your macros out with little snippets of text before you go into full production mode on your "giant work"! And also watch out for Word's propensity for inserting spaces around the link when you paste it in between the quotes. If there're spaces in there - like this:
It won't work.
Have fun,

Perfect timing... (Reply to this comment)
by mothra3
I'm awfully glad I read this when I did...I have a giant magnum opus review I'm working on right now. Until now, I've always gone into the text after completing the final edit and pasted each one in by hand, which, while shorter than typing each one, is still a pain. This will save me a lot of time and annoyance.
Thanks again!

Beats me, I only have three. The process only takes about thirty seconds, however, so every time I go to a different computer I forge ahead and set them up.

You're certainly welcome. But does that mean you won't be there to help paint? :(

I think most of us use Word or another processor because of those tools. I'm not necessarily spelling-impaired, but I am a horrible typist. Anything that makes it easier to defeat the limitations of the submission wiondow is a welcome addition to my arsenal of tools.

As the old Lawnboy mower commercial would have it, I want to say, "Mrazzafrazzl!" every time I run into those doofus quotation marks...
Luck.

The jury's still out on whether it will help people or just add another level of confusion. But at least I tried, eh?

This is one of the most useful essays found on the site. Thank you for sharing the information. I am not too sure I understand all the things about hyperlinks. How do you get the title to appear rather than the URL? I am still having trouble with that. Could you email me at rkpruitt1@comcast.net. Thanks.

So glad you shared this with us, any short cuts we can find is a big help. I type my reviews in Word as it is so easy to use and helps the spelling and grammer.
Great review

Regardless of the method, the cat gets skinned, eh?
Can't imagine building an epinions-specific template, but, then, lots of people can't imagine doing the macros or the AutoComplete technique.

Try a different combination. Looks as though you're clashing with a hotkey assigned for a different program that's TSR; quite possibly something you forgot was on the system.

Ugh....... (Reply to this comment)
by kamel622
......your directions are good and easy to follow. For some reason, when I type in the new hot key.....it doesn't show up in the box that it should and up pops a box that says:
Copy Disk - v1.00 and it wants me to do a Copy from/to Removable Drive (A). I've even gotten so far as the recorder, but can't get the tags into it.
Ahhh well, I'll try again later...kath

......like something even I could do! Going to give it a try. It would be helpful to not have to stop and type it in each time......just hit hot key and I'd be on my way.
Thanks Rex....I'll let you know how it goes....Make it a great day.....kath
