What an eclectic list (Reply to this comment)
by Howard_Creech
I love genre "best" movie lists. So how did you like "Starman" (since you had mixed feelings about "Robin & Marian")?
"You can't take it with you" and "Shop around the corner" are a couple of my favorite Jimmy Stewart movies.

for the plug of my "1,2,3" review. I thought the plug was a quid pro quo for the one in my "Irma la douce" review at www.epinions.com/content_133031104132, but I see that neither you nor Alex has rated that.

Hmm. Do you think you were much of a movie critic at 17?? Hahaha. I think Stoltz was a bit reserved as was his nature, but he didn't seem wooden. Anyway, I think you should rewatch it! :)
And watch a couple of the others too.

Hey Alex, haven't I always gotten your user name right, I hope? Well, I discerned those were your reasons, but don't see that happening in the movies. Guess it's just a difference in perspective, huh? I also linked to kristinafh, but you and Steve are welcome. :-)

Dear Jan: You rather put me in the cross-hairs, but I appreciate the plug, and you spelled my nom de plume right, so why should I complain?
I guess I look for a sincerity in pictures, some good taste, or at least a lack of gross sentimentality. Though LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL begins well, its second half is mawkish, and aside from the production design, MOULIN ROUGE, in my opinion, is a disaster. As people will discern, if they give my reviews of these two blockbusters a fair read, they may discern that Benigni trivializes the Holocaust, and Luhrmann turns the Belle Epoque into a juvenile farce.
But that's only my opinion. Time will tell.
Thank you for thinking of me and Stephen Murray.
Kind regards.

Oh, yes, forgot to mention that in the first paragraph with other classics. Interesting is good, hehe.

I didn't say it was the best. I said I wouldn't include the big classics. It wasn't leaden to me either.

10 Romantic movies (Reply to this comment)

Interesting list. I probably would have included Dr. Zhivago. Sheila

How did the leaden "Let's Make Love" make any list of best anything? If MM is necessary, the sprightlier "Some Like It Hot" is more romantic and, uh, better! I think MM was too self-absorbed to propel anything onto a list of romantic movies.
At least there's one with Myrna Loy!
