As usual, I seem to get half of my knowledge from the movies (which aren't excatly a trustworthy source of true knowledge of course!), so the only knowledge I'd know about the subject of Quebec lifestyles were in movies like Mon Oncle Antoine and J.A. Martin Photographer, but what I saw in those films seems fairy agreeable with what you talk about here. Most of the characters in those movies were quite sheltered from everything else and led simple lives, esp. JA Martin which was set in the early 1900's, and even though Antoine was set in the 50's ( I think) it's still about the same environment as well.
