| caithnessfan's Full Review: Orange Glo Wood Floor Polish & Cleaner |
After attempting to sell my house for sale by owner for some months, I broke down and got a realtor.
Among the things he suggested was a thorough scrubbing of all surfaces from ceilings to floors that I could reach.
The dining room of the house is the original hard wood floor from the 1920's and was showing a lot of wear from the decades but I decided to see what I could do with it short of stripping, sanding, and re-surfacing the whole thing which was WAAAY out of my shoe string budget.
While looking through the local Wal-Mart for something that might do the job, I found the Orange Glo Wood Floor Polish & Cleaner
I remembered the advertisements from TV and decided to give it a try since I had used the spray bottle Orange Glo Wood Cleaner and Polish on the wood panneling in the living room with great success.
When I got home, I swept then mopped with plain soap & water since the floor was on the neglected side.
I had a group of realtors come through the house a few days later to get their feedback (arranged by my realtor) and ALL 20 of them had great things to say about the look of the old wood floor. My realtor even made a note to ask me what I used on the floor since he had seen it before and after this "treatment".
Ease of use
Orange Glo Wood Flor Polish is extremely easy to use.
1. sweep floor
2. If the floor is extremely dirty still after the sweeping you may want to mop with regular soap & water, rinse and let dry.
3. Open bottle and use on a small test area first. Pick a place that will be less noticeable if the desired affect is not achieved.
4. If you like the affect on the test spot, then cover the rest of the floor by squirting a small amount onto the floor and using a clean mop, spread evenly over the floor. Going with the grain works better than across the grain.
5. Let dry and enjoy.
Other notes and recommendations from the manufacturer
If you do not get the desired affect, the bottle says the product can be removed using an amonia based cleaner or stripper.
If you DO get the results you want and decide to use the product regularly, it is recommended to strip off excess layers after each 3-4 uses to prevent build up using an amonia based cleaner or stripper.
Cost and value
I believe the bottle was 32 ounces in size and was nearly enough to give the 12' by 16' dining room floor two coats if I wanted to.
Since the treatment, I have walked over it as have several potential buyers and their agents and it still looks great.
I paid $4.95 for the bottle since I wasn't in the mood at the time to go comparison shopping for it as I usually do but since then have found it for as little as $3.95 on sale at Big Lots and as much as $5.50 at Menards.
The shine has held up to foot traffic, the moving of a metal bunk bed across it, and even my wet feet from mopping other rooms and washing windows.
I accidentally sprayed window cleaner with ammonia on a spot while cleaning windows and it DID take it off some but not completely since it was a light spray and I wiped it up quickly. Once it dried, I was able to use a small sponge and a dribble of the remainder in the bottle to "fix" the stripped spot and it looks just as good as the rest of the floor again.
