This is why I chose Compassion International. They give to children, help families, teach God's word, and educate people about cleanliness, educate kids so that they have a future and can one day help themselves, and help them to become responsible adults. Compassion International focuses on producing healthy adults with a sense of responsibility and knowledge of right from wrong. They help provide for the emotional and spiritual needs as well. Nothing moved me more than the video that was sent to me by Compassion International, in which the speaker so eloquently stated, "Poverty is more than a condition; it is an attitude...the attitude of 'I don't matter.' At Compassion we teach them that every child matters, that each one is special in God's eyes, and God has a purpose for each life on the earth."
This is Christ's message, "Feed my Sheep." This is the purpose of Compassion, the entire purpose for our lives on this planet...to love and nurture and protect God's flock.
On a practical note, I will say that I was very impressed by footage on the video of how the children are given heaping plates of food, well-balanced with vegetables, meat, and bread. This is true "abundant life" spooned out for people who have never known anyone to care about them as individuals, much less as persons with real needs. This is a true giving spirit. Also, you can check out Compassion International's standing with the Better Business Bureau, or any other program that scans charities for reliability and have full confidence that your money is not going to crooks, but to people with true concern in their hearts for the people they claim to help. The organization is honest and trustworthy.
It is not uncommon, with Compassion International, for a sponsor to get regular letters from the president of the organization. Also, there are many chances to write letters to your sponsor child. The letters will be translated to the child's language, and delivered to them. The children are so very responsive in returning letters, complete with pictures and scriptures written on them for Easter and Christmas, thanking the sponsor profusely for his/her continued support.
Poverty is horrible, and perhaps it is a demon that we will never overcome, but there are things that we can do to help, to minimize the suffering of another human being. By so doing, we prove that there is still some goodness in this dark world. We create light where once there was only shadow. We create comfort where once there was only pain. Create some happiness today by taking on a sponsor child. For only $28.00 a month, you can truly bring help and support to someone who desperately needs you.
