BMW dealers do not move the volume others do, and have a smaller profit margin to deal with - so they have to be more "people" friendly to survive. Good customer care or go out of business.

Don't leave out the Honda Shadows or even the 250 Kawasaki Ninja's (one-up performance, light weight, low seat, and great mpg). If you are comfortable with the bike and where you'll get your service then it is the right bike, but if you aren't then comfortable then it isn't.

It's all about the ride.

Out looking for my first "real" bike (I've been driving a Vespa LX150). Have been to several dealerships and shops, and tonight started to peruse craigslist, etc.

Your epinion helped keep things in perspective.

Now I just need to figure out whether it's a Suzuki Boulevard (e.g. M50, S83) or the beautiful BMW 650 I saw today... Did I mention the BMW dealer gave my kid free food? ;)

Scott,
Not really a celebrity but someone who tried to repay a bunch of people who good to me.

If you buy for the "long haul" BMWs are not as expensive as most other bikes - as long as you do all the maintenance. The truth is that I have bought every one of my BMWs used, and have learned to do most of the maintenance myself! That's how I have been able to afford mine.

Anyway, thanks. Hope you enjoy the reviews. Entertainment IS where you find it.

Wow Don, you're a celebrity!

Back when I used to ride, I always wanted a BMW. But the funds were never even close to existing for me then.

Scott,

Thanks, and yes. I have so much money invested in T-Shirts that I can't afford to switch brands.

Another nice article Don. I am just wondering now . . . 48 states, 6 countries, and over 200,000 miles on a single brand, that single brand is BMW?

Thank you for taking the time to rate and comment on this.

Now if your friends really are looking for motorcycles they should consider taking a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Begining Rider Course (BRC). If they have ridden for more than 1000 miles taking the MSF Experienced Rider Course (ERC) should be a "must do" at least once every year. I encourage EVERY rider I know to do that. http://www.msf-usa.org/

Friends encourage friends to do so.

If I didn't know so many people who had been involved in motorcycle accidents, and were looking for a bike, I should think I'd appreciate this that much more. Well done.

Also, thank you for adding me to your WOT. If you continue to write reviews like this and the others I've read, I expect you'll be on mine fairly soon.
