Tide Powder Laundry Detergent saves money, even though it is most expensive.

Written: Jul 14 '07 (Updated Jul 14 '07)
Pros:Works well on tough stains.
Cons:Expensive. Without Downy clothes aren't soft.
The Bottom Line: Tide saves you the trouble of buying multiple laundry products (not including Downy) and it still cleans clothes. It take less time to get stains out and smells pretty good.

Tide Powder Laundry Detergent has been used in my family for years. I remember listening to my mother and father squabble about buying the cheaper laundry soap over Tide, which is more expensive. Mom always won, purchasing Tide, which she claims to be the most effective laundry detergent. Unfortunately, I didn't take her advice. For the first few months after I moved out, I fought with various generic brands, Cheer, and Sunshine. Always wondering how my mother got my clothes so clean. Finally, even though I was a broke college student, I decided to try Tide Powder Laundry Detergent. From then on I haven't used anything else.

REMOVES STAINS

Tide is very good at removing stains. Grass, mud and food stains rarely need pretreatment. Light and heavy grease stains need to be pretreated. I have found that the easiest way to pretreat, is to rub a little stain stick on the spot, right before putting the piece of clothing into the washer. Other laundry detergents require soaking and spot remover on minor stains to get the same effect as Tide.

NO COMPLIMENTARY CLEANING PRODUCTS

Cheer, Sunshine and generic brands require extra help from Biz, Oxy-clean, or Clorox. These extra products used with Tide, don't make much of a difference. But when used with other brands they are the difference between clean and dirty clothes. Therefore, you don't really save money by using cheaper soap, after buying all the complimentary products.

EXPENSE AND CHILD PROOF

Two complaints I have about Tide Powder Laundry Detergent; first, it is very expensive. A 211 ounce box costs $17.99 or more, depending on where you shop. Second, it is not equipped with a child proof container. The box never bothered me until I had a little girl; it makes me nervous that the lid can be easily opened. It would be convenient for the Tide Company to sell a line of Powder Laundry Detergent that comes in a bucket with a tight lid.

SOFT TOUCH

One last problem Tide has is the course fabric it leaves after washing. Which the company tried to remedy by making Tide with a Touch of Downy. Although, I prefer to buy a bottle of liquid Downy and a Downy ball; it fixes the problem of uncomfortable clothes and adds a scent that I like better than just the smell of Tide.

My cousin did an actual Science Fair Project on which laundry detergent cleans best. I don't remember all of the specifics, but I wasn't surprised to find out that Tide was the best laundry detergent on the market (2005). For those who would like to know Cheer was next in line.
I have been very pleased with Tide Powder Laundry Detergent. I don't like that it is so expensive but I do believe it is worth it.
