Animal Time!

Written: Aug 31 '01
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend Animal Time for infants and toddlers because young children love to look at others their age and identify with them.

The more I am in stores, the more I appreciate Rummage Sales. In Wal-Mart today, I stopped by the Children's book section to check out anything new they had. The little board books that Emily loves to chew and look at were starting at $5.00 each- yikes! To most people, that may be cheap, but for a family who is on a VERY strict budget, I just couldn't afford it.

On the way home, I see a rummage sale near the road we live on- yay! Emily and I took a quick peek, and to my joy, she was selling children's books for a quarter each! In the pile I bought, was my absolute favorite, called Animal Time!

What drew me to buy this book was not only the price, but the sweet child on the cover. The infant had to be 12 months old, sitting up wearing a lion costume- mane and all!
I just about laughed myself silly, and then showed Emily, and she let out a "BABY!!" I knew, she was hooked to. Isn't ia amazing how book covers can do that, without ever reading one page?

We took the book home and read it after her nap, and believe me, it is an easy and quick read! The book deals with descriptions of Animals, and do it in the clever way of babies dressed like the animals.

There is a white and brown monkey, a orange striped tiger, a spotted leopard, a gray elephant, blue turtle, a silly rhinoceros, the lion from the cover, a black and white skunk and panda bear, a brown whale, blue dolphin, a feathered owl (with glasses), a large toucan, a blue seal, and brown hat just hanging around!

The babies in the above costumes are to cute!! I only WISH my daughter would wear one of those, I can't imagine what the photo shoot was like for all of these adorable pictures! If you have seen some of Anne Geddes work, this is very similiar. My favorite would have to be the blue seal, who is sitting with half of his tongue hanging out- he looks like he is saying "I am sooooooo not enjoying this."

This book educates children on different types of animals, colors, and of course, babies! Even though I didn't pay full price, it can be bought new for $4.95 in the U.S.

Animal Time is a great board book, written by Tom Arma, that your infant or toddler can look at for hours and giggle at other children for awhile!
