Hey Ander!

Looks like our taste in music is slightly more similar than in movies!

Thanks for the comment!

Well, I like a few of these too. :)

Bryan Adams' Reckless is pretty dang good--definitely my fav album of his and one of my favs in general. My favorite songs are One Night Love Affair and Summer of '69. I almost saw him in concert but it didn't work out. Couldn't deal with the Everything I do song though.

I also love Belinda Carlisle's Greatest Hits and my fav song is also Summer Rain. Cool song. I like Greatest Hits albums too really (but didn't like Bryan Adam's which didn't include two of my favs of his). The Go Gos GH album is pretty good too.

I also love Roxette's Tourism album. I am a big fan of Roxette. Not incredibly deep really but *really* catchy tunes.

I caught The Corrs' live album and liked that one a good bit. I had a friend in Australia that was really into the Corrs--probably from their first album but I hadn't bothered to check them out until recently.

I also dig Fleetwood Mac's GH album.

I am going to have to check out The Bangles' GH album too.

Some of the rest I have heard or had but haven't really got into them. There are a few I will have to look into...

Ack, too many things to do now I'm back from holiday! To reply to all of you in one go...

Mike - thanks! I'll try to stop by in Music a little more often...

David - You gave a Hansen CD 4 stars? Oh dear... yep, that really does mean you can't complain about any of the ones I like, including D:Ream! :-P (Bet you have just as funky a haircut really...)

Sadgit - I have a copy of "Move To This" - I'm willing to listen to all offers over $100... :-P I agree with your comment on dance music too, the stuff they churn out these days is so soulless and mechanical (puts on "when I was a lad" hat)...

Caroline - "The bit about David had me in hysterics! So funny.. and true, despite what he says. Course we all know what (who) the best thing out of B-ham is!" - well, Carl thinks it's him, but I'm glad you've seen the truth! (You did mean me, right? :-P)

Kath - I'm not making any comments on that.... but I'm glad you don't think I'm an Olde Fogey, anyway! (I'm back from hols now - I take it you're all still here?!?!?)

Pnut - Well if you haven't got any of their albums anyway... (But I still think "Tourism" is your best bet)

Sunni - Seems that Cathy has a lot of fans out there! (Me too adorable for words... erm... I'll just go and ask my wife... hey, she agrees with you! :-D :-P)

Patti - Hmm... of course, on a CD there is no side 2, but I know what you mean! :-P Thanks!

Chris - what, picky, you!???!?? You're right about it being a little sloppy, but in my defence I would have had more time to sort that out before leaving if the damn epinions "let's tell you there's a problem with your review but not let you know where so that you have to hunt for it for half an hour" error message came up again and again - and this time, it wasn't even an HTML error! But I'll try to update soon and iron out the sloppiness.

It's a shame that Johnny Clegg never got much exposure outside South Africa as I'm sure he'd be popular elsewhere. Thanks for the info you gave on him, I don't really know a great deal about him except that I like his music!

Jo - it did take me quite a while, bits and pieces here and there, you know how it is when horrible things like Work and Real Life get in the way... I probably would have had the Van Morrison album in the top ten somewhere, but my CD corrupted quite quickly so I haven't heard it that many times.

Mothy - Er... do you like Duran Duran then? (Have you heard that extremely mediocre version of "Wild Boys" that West Life - so my wife tells me - have released recently? Just why do they bother? Isn't it enough that they produced a mediocre cover of Billy Joel?!?!? They're much better when they actually do something original... [RANT x infinity] Old Fogeys of the world unite! :-O

Linda - Ah, but being a real man is not being worried about what people think when you say you like Belinda Carlisle etc... I think! (NB - you must have good taste... :-P)

Jan - you, spot a mistake in my writing? Wow, that's only happened about a hundred times before! :-P Momentary slip (one of millions...), will correct when I can find time. BTW I also have "Duke", a 70's (I think) Genesis album, which isn't bad but is a little too weird for its own good.

That's it for now - three cheers for bulk replying!

I like Genesis, will have to dl some of their old stuff. Haven't heard of half these, hehe. One question: lyrical moment for Nora Jones is silence? ;-)

I love it that you enjoy so many female artists. My husband seems to think that the only stuff a guy can really like is "tough guy" music. So glad you are proving him wrong. By the way I love many of your choices too.
Thanks,
Linda

Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran Duran

;)

ps. Actually, you don't have to be an old fogey to hate the crap coming out nowadays, because it really is crap. (Though there are always a few exceptions to every rule--I've heard nothing but good things about Norah Jones...)Hating it means you actually have taste. Be proud.

Good stuff and JOHNNY CLEGG!!!! (Reply to this comment)
by ChrisJarmick
Interesting mix revealing a wide taste in many kinds of music which I think is a good thing.

Nit-pick the review is a little sloppy and you have left off some of the actual Album titles.
Norah Jones for instance and a couple of others.

I was also very pleased to see Johnny Clegg get a mention. I had the pleasure of interviewing him and getting a piece about him on a couple of television shows when I was doing such things. He was (probably still is) the only White South African who is an actual member of the Zula tribe. He suffered much during the years of apartheid because he partnered with black South Africans and crossed many political and cultural lines. When he started doing well produced pop albums in the late 80's early 90s he got some U.S. airplay and temporarily sold a few albums.
But some personal tragedies led to a less than consistent follow-up to his album.

I don't have the Anthology album and will have to look that one up.

thanks,

Chris Jarmick

Side 2 of "Reckless" (Reply to this comment)

is always what I would play after I broke up with a guy. It just seemed so suited to that. "Ain't Gonna Cry" is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Nice list!

Roxette! (Reply to this comment)

I never bought one of their albums, but I did like the songs I heard from them, even though I can't remember any of the names now... And I want to say I heard within the last year or so that they were working on a new album... Google time! Oh, they DID have an album released last year, it was their pop hits though.....

.........don't seem like an Old Fogey to me! Course, my age and music choices may have something to do with that.

Enjoy your vacation in Austria.....we'll be here when you get back. Make it a great vacation....kath

Not familiar with all of them but by the sounds of it, I'd like a lot, if not all of them.

The bit about David had me in hysterics! So funny.. and true, despite what he says. Course we all know what (who) the best thing out of B-ham is!

Congrats on the 250!!!!!!!!!!!

I am trying hard to find a copy of her "Move to this" album. I've heard "Touch Me (All Night Long)" and "C'mon and get my love" elsewhere and they were both superb cuts.

Somehow turn-of-the-80's Dance music (Lisa Stansfield, KLF, Martika) has a spirit of freedom and joy-de-vie that contemporary dance doesn't.

Ok, let's see.. David Gray, REM, and Genesis! (I actually like Genesis, even beyond Peter Gabriel.. and We Can't Dance is excellent)

Probably the best thing to come out of Sweden (okay, besides David Johanson..)

Oh Roxette rule way more than me.. I mean, Per and Maria had the funkiest hair I've ever seen on a pair of Swedes (why when I say the word "Swede" do I always think of turnip soup?)

Hmm, D:Ream?? Dave?? Dear oh Lord.. having said that, I reviewed a bloody Hanson CD, and gave it 4 stars! What was that chaps name again?? It sounded rude whatever it was...

Anyhoo.. enjoy Austria! (Excellent country!)

Cheers!

I like the oft-neglected Genesis pick and the suddenly underappreciated David Gray. Cathy Dennis is fun, too. :)

It looks like you've got a title (and an 'h') missing from your Norah Jones pick....html silliness perhaps?

Again, fun list, and I rather enjoy you as a writer....care to visit music more often?
