The Bottom Line Inspired by a true story
I followed the gnat past 23rd avenue. It was summer somewhere in the mid-East and the heat was miserable, so by the time the gnat turned south on 24th I was starting to sweat. The sweat turned to beads on my eyebrows and dripped down into my eyes. It was impairing my vision, which made it difficult to keep my eyes on the gnat, yet I still pressed forward. The gnat was a tricky fellow with wild flying habits. To follow him properly I had to push my way through the people walking beside the gravel road. Twice I was forced to leap in front of vehicles in order to maintain chase. I think he knew I was after him, which explained his erratic flight pattern. Once I thought the chase had come to an end in an alleyway dumpster, but as I entered the trash bin, staining my pants in the process, he escaped on the other side. After the trash bin, my longing to capture him intensified. I would stop at nothing less than devouring the gnat. He was the cause of the burning stitch in my side, the sweat seeping through my shirt, and now he had ruined my pants. I must stop him before this ruin spread to others. Finally, in the middle of a dirt parking lot, I saw him hover over a pile of camel dung. People were milling around everywhere in the lot, I hoped they wouldnt startle the gnat. I crept in. The gnat landed. I leapt in front of gnat and threw my face onto him. As I bit down on the gnat and chewed him as well as I could, I smiled. I could see the faces around me. I sensed their good pleasure in my triumph. --Matthew 23:24-- |
